Tagging on to those who have already commented...

You've given yourself a challenging task with which to learn BIAB. Because BIAB is primarily designed around the popular time signatures of 3/4 and 4/4, compound time signature (e.g. 12/8, 6/8, 9/8, etc.) have their own additional challenges when using the software.

If you've found that 4/4 (presumably as a swing [sw] style) is the time signature that works best for you, then, as others have said above, to get 'half a bar', you need to set that bar to 2 beats. As mentioned above, this is done by using Bar Settings (F5 or right-click on the bar in question and select "Bar Settings"). The image shows the setting to change. To reinforce what sixchannel said, the bar following the 2-beat bar needs to be set back to 4 beats (again using F5).
