I think a better way of doing shots and holds would be to create a basic sample set for each instrument it can then generate any chord/voicing from the instrument's sample set to a wav that's joined into the RealTrack sections, maybe have a right click on the shot/hold to select chord voicing/octave/volume/slow strum/fast strum/bass pick n strum.
Good idea ... But ... We don't know anything about the agreement PG Music has with the artists. Some artists may feel using "samples" as you describe exceeds the standard use already established for RealTracks and RealDrums.
While I realize existing RealTracks and RealDrums audio files can be imported into many programs so they can be sliced, diced or sampled I believe the saving grace is most users find it easier to let Band-in-a-Box and RealBand perform the labor of handling the audio file down to the bar-beat, multi-riff levels. In my mind, providing instrument samples is very different than providing percussion samples.
I like the idea and believe it could be very beneficial to users but also believe PG Music would need to carefully consider the best way to implement the idea.
I remember asking for holds as they didn't have them implemented and I had to copy and paste endings in place of them. Then PG made the holds by just recording them with a similar guitar as the original used by the Artist. So basically instead of using a strummed chord that PG recorded for the holds/shots you would be using notes recorded by PG, so you would be going from a RealChord to RealNotes, same as here C:\Program Files\PG Music Inc\Band-in-a-Box Sounds\Programs\Guitar. The Hold/Shots are too limited C Cm C7 CMaj7 Cm7 Cm7b5 Csus4 C7sus Caug Cm7#5 and you have over 100 chord types in BB and BB substitutes from the above list. This was created with the chord picker tool, if I had to type them in you wouldn't hear from me for a month https://www.dropbox.com/s/cxzdt3z6viqkek9/BB%20All%20Chords%20Holds.SGU?dl=1
Yes, I think his is an excellent suggestion. Everything in one concise place and selectable. +1
BIAB & RB2026 Win.(Audiophile), Windows 10 Pro & Windows 11, Cakewalk Bandlab, Izotope Prod.Bundle, Roland RD-1000, Synthogy Ivory, Session Keys Grand S & Electric R, Kontakt, Focusrite 18i20, KetronSD2, NS40M, Pioneer Active Monitors.
Using RealTracks, I often notice that the bass track doesn't seem to participate in shots and holds with the other instruments. Since I always save my projects as 1-per-track wav files and bring them into Cakewalk, I add midi bass notes where BiaB leaves them out. Is there something I could do in BiaB to eliminate the need to do this?
What Bass has the missing Holds ? is there a hold number listed in the Hold column of the RealTrack picker ? EDIT: You can manually copy them from X:\bb\RealTracks\Library\Holds\ if you open Holds_73 and drag SH0731.wav/wma in the DAW you will see the 12 notes played, there are 85bpm so you can match them to the tempo. You can also use them as samples to create custom riffs for the RealTrack.
Pipeline, thanks for the info - I didn't see your add-on before my previous reply. I'll take a look at the stuff you described and give it a "shot" (pun intended). Thanks again, George
OK - I found the Hold column (it was too narrow to display the heading) and I just installed build 612 and did a rebuild. Bass track 2877 shows 408 in the Holds column, but I still get no bass note on a held chord, so I'll either use my midi method or try the wav approach you described.
On a G7#9 - the guitar plays the chord properly - but if I put a 'hold' on the bar - the guitar plays a straight G7 - why is it doing that, and can it be fixed?
