Keeping in mind, the comments refer here to media, which would include TV, music, and the internet. I don't know if it is fair to say TV has been a net negative, but it is true that commercial TV is failing, losing viewers, declining in so many ways, and increasingly gearing its programming to society's lowest common denominator. Passive reception of whatever comes on the screen can produce a dangerous relativism, where there is no truth, no values, no aesthetic worth.
Ugh, this comes from Ed, and if this reflection does not describe a Dystopian descent, Bud I don't know what does. This is 1984. I honestly believe that we have arrived, it's just a whole lot worse. It is unbelievable what is going on the world today. As they say in drama writing classes, "What can we do to make it worse?" I dunno. Are there any mass murderer psychopath scripts on Netflix we can follow???
To say that what is happening in the world and our country is NOT Dystopian is like saying "Big Brother isn't all that bad. I mean, he just likes to kill you if you don't agree with him and stuff, but other than that he is ok."
We are living in a Dystopian world.
People are committing suicide over what is happening in our country. This is not a Netflix original. This is real.
Orwell could not have dreamed this up.
We are in it.
We are here.
Anyone heard of boiling frog syndrome.
Still gonna try and write some happy tunes though.
Why not.
