If your problem is with Realtracks, you could try using the plugin PGDynamics. It's under Audio >> Audio driver settings >> Edit plugin settings. Click on the dropdown arrow in the top slot and select PGDynamics. Leave the settings at their default values (initially, at least). This plugin is a combination compressor/expander and might do the job.
