Scott and I had been working on a very mellow song. About ready to mix that and I had a flashback to the music that got me through my teens... life centred around surviving school and getting home to stack the spindle and crank the volume as loud as my mum and suburban Britain permitted.
If you don`t get at least half the song references here... well, where were you in 1969?

Vinyl Spiral

Style is _FLKRK12.STY (Country/Folk Rock w/ 12-String)

RealTracks in style: 1008:Bass, Electric, ElecRock Ev 120
RealTracks in style: ~686:Organ, B3, Background Pop Ev 120
RealTracks in song: ~1030:Guitar, 12-String Electric, Fingerpicking Ev 120
1033 Guitar 12 string El. Strumming 120
RealTracks in style: ~405:Guitar, Acoustic, Strumming Ev 120
RealDrums in song: RockHardEven8
Scott`s guitars: PRS/Purdy high& low, &PRS/Marshall,G6128/Marshall

Vinyl Spiral

staring out at the wind sock sentry
no flights leaving the golden rule
blackbirds circle a smokestack jungle
keep your head down at home at school
that`s the golden rule

between the cross and the revolutions
needle drops into the groove
roll up from the Book of Revelation
wind begins to howl splits you in two
needle drops into the groove

vinyl spiral
the rabbit hole in your room
Wooden Ships high above you
the Maiden of the Cancer Moon

painting life out from the corner
turning your beautiful mind
for every pill makes you smaller
electric dreams If Six Were Nine
turning your beautiful mind

vinyl spiral
the rabbit hole in your room
Cinnamon Girl high above you
Dark Side of the Moon

vinyl spiral
the rabbit hole in your room
Dark Star in the Strange Brew
Within You Without You

Nice flashback and collaboration! If I didn't know it was done now, I would say 70s for sure.
Great capture! Yep, those rebellious school days!
Guitar is very fun starting 3:05 smile

Nice bit of neopysch gents.
I do wish you'd treated the repeated lines at the end of verse with some sort of psych effect to accentuate it but as it is the Byrds wouldn't have knocked it back - pity you didn't have a Ricky 12 at hand.
The lyrical quotations were fun to place.
Very enjoyable.

I miss the vinyl. Love the music of the line "Vinyl Spiral." Lyrics are excellent. Great opening line "staring out at the wind sock sentry." That line is musical without any music!

Robert and Scott,

The lyrics and the style of the lyrics are incredibly rich with memorabilia of the 60s. This song is a very vivid journey into past times.

It's two enthusiastic thumbs up from me!

All the best,
Noel

Robert & Scott,

A very cool psych-rock sound and an excellent lyric to go with it.

A good cohesive sound to the backing. Good use of the drums and the organ. The vocal sits in a nice place (I thought some background vocals would suit this well).

Scott - some of your best work! I really like the little touch of wah (I think?) in there...

Scrobertology! continues...

Nice.

Really well done guys - 1969 was certainly many moons before I came along, but I still got quite a few of the referenced and really liked the tune. The throttle on those guitars is fantastic! I love how much energy in behind this tune. Definitely can imagine this sounding unreal live.

Great work, and thanks for sharing smile

Yeah, now you're talking!!

You guys do this style so well, and this is your best yet IMHO. Has the late 60's early 70's San Francisco vibe happening, and I loved that music, still do.

I was studying the song graphic, are those your albums? Recognized some of them. Surrealistic Pillow is one that I still have in my vinyl collection, listened to it many times.

Fun lyrics, I liked all the little song quotes in there.

Really good vocal, Robert, and Scott always comes up with great guitar parts.

Very much enjoyed, nice work you two!

Vinyls are really coming back in to popularity again. In Victoria alone we have so many record shops I've lost count, and I just picked up about 6 new records to play at home.

This was awesome. Thanks for sharing!

Wow guys, beautifully psychedelic with twists and turns in the melody that kept my attention all the way through! Robert your vocal is perfect for this type of song (not to mention your wonderful gift for lyric writing) and Scott's guitar work complimented perfectly! I really liked the wah parts in the middle! Thanks, Torrey

I am so glad that this is song is well received. Not only was this a fun song to partake in boy could I relate. I remember when Robert first sent the song lyrics I was smiling while reading them. Definitely hit the nail on the head. Glad you liked the guitar work. I personally thing this is one of Roberts best vocals, backtracks and loved the way he mixed it.

Bud remembers every reference...dunno if that's good or bad! He was 23

Janice was but 12 years old so she remembers it from a secondary perspective smile

Inserting all those period song references was an excellent idea and it worked so nicely!

You guys own this neo-pysychedelia niche...the vocal, arrangement and, man, that guitar all nailed the vibe.

Extraordinarily cool or should I say groovy!

Floyd,
OOh, good word that!
Thanks for the positives. I find working with anything more complicated than "generate track" on RT drums challenging... maybe I just got lucky here.
Totally agree that Scott ( with new amp, I think) nailed the solo and background tracks .

Dave,

Not my albums, but I picked the picture `cos of that Airplane record. I had a darn good collection of all the psychedelic bands and foolishly never got around to bringing them to Canada when I left the UK in`75.
Thank you very much for those kind comments!

Ember,

I stopped buying any physical form of music 10 years ago... vinyl could get me back starting another collection.Make my own spiral with some of those great sleeves!
Thanks for your listen and comments.
