If a particular RealTrack is available in notation form, is there any way I can get midi" from this notation?

Why would I want to go backwards from audio to midi you ask?

First of all i am not a bass player nor do i have the bass player mentality. .. all i could ever be is a super-guitarist trying to play a sub-adequate bass. But the RealTrack basslines are definitely made by real bassists so that is a good starting point.
Many times the Realtrack bass grooves, when matched up against my own song, will not play what I want to hear. But if I find a bass groove that is pretty close, if I were able to edit the "outside notes" to fit my song in both pitch and time, that would be fantastic. If it were in midi format I could do this easily. (the other option would be to cut , paste and pitch shift the audio bass track which I don't even want to think about!!!

So, can midi be obtained somehow from the notation?

thanks

There may be other options, but certainly if you have notation available, you can enter it into most good Midi sequencers.

I've started playing around with Melodyne which is a remarkably easy program for manipulating the pitch and duration of notes. The notes appear on a piano role as blobs that you can drag to different pitches. You are also able to shorten and lengthen duration, raise and lower volume or delete notes altogether. The program is a bit pricey but my wife bought a copy for me a little over a year ago using her teacher discount. I just got around to using it a few weeks ago when I was having a problem fixing a sour note in a vocal. I found at that time that I was able to fix some note durations on some real track endings that cut off too quickly for my taste. I'm just beginning to explore the possibilities of this software but I've been impressed with it so far.

Melodyne also can convert your bass audio directly to MIDI if you wanted to do that.

Simply create a Midi file from your RealChart arrangement, eliminate via your favorite midi sequencer this zero Volume Control setting right at the beginning of the pertinent RealChart track - and you're all set. Alternatively and within BB you may copy/move a RealChart Bass track, say, to the Soloist track ...

One point, not every RealTracks has notation available. In particular, many of the Bass styles don't have notation. That is something we plan on improving in the future. You can see which RT have notation, by looking in the RealCharts column in the RealTracks Assign dialog, this will show 'N' if notation is available, and 'G' if both notation and guitar fretboard+tab is available.

Martin,

Since MIDI information is available (for some) Realtracks, can it be sent to the MIDI out port to drive external devices like sound modules? I tried, but without success.

Should work without a hitch - it's just midi after all. RealCharts on Bass, Piano, Guitar and Strings track contain a zero volume control command at the very beginning of the track, though. This command seemingly gets stripped when the track gets moved or copied to the Soloist track, say. When you create a midi file, this command may get stripped manually from the pertinent tracks via your favorite sequencer program.

Sorry, I should have been more specific...I was asking if it is possible to send the MIDI data associated with Realtracks from BiaB itself (not from some other program). Although I routinely send MIDI data out from non-Realtrack songs in BiaB, I have not been able to do this for Realtrack songs. It seems as though Realtrack MIDI data is represented differently within BiaB, perhaps just for the purpose of providing a visual indication of the notes being played. Is that true?

All these ideas about using the Real Track midi information is great but that does not mean you can use it to change the Real Track part itself. That is an audio file only, not midi and cannot be changed unless you're using a program like Melodyne or doing the dreaded cutting and pasting.
Remember Bob's mantra: "Midi is not audio, audio is not midi".
All you can use that midi information for is to trigger a midi synth just like always and then of course, no great RT articulation and sound. Still, if you have a good sounding bass patch in your synth at least you're getting the notes a real pro player used.

Yes, we refer to the MIDI data for the RealCharts as "silent MIDI", since it is seen (notation, on-screen instruments), but not heard. You of course are hearing the audio RealTracks play at the same time, which corresponds to the silent MIDI.
If you want to hear the "silent MIDI", you could use Edit-Copy Tracks to copy the MIDI part to a different track (like the Melody track), and then it would be heard.
