I'm trying to backup MY WORK to an external hard drive. I need to tell the backup program (Norton 360) which file types (extensions) to backup. By default it doesn't backup some of the file types like SEQ. Which files do I need to backup to save my recordings and settings, etc. for my songs. I use BIAB and RealBand.
I'm sure this is a common question is probably documented someplace but I couldn't find it.

In the event you have received files from the web to use, I would recommend modifying the list to be:
*.sg? <-- BIAB song with NO melody or soloist track
*.mg? <-- BIAB song with melody or soloist track; also includes .mgx files
.seq <-- Realband/PowerTracks sequence files
If you export to MIDI, audio, or MP3, you might want to make sure you also include:
*.mid
*.wav
*.mp3

It's a bit more than that. There can be numbers or letters in the third position, so you would need to backup SG* and MG*.
EDIT - John's post has more good info. I was clarifying BarryKJ's post.
This is from the Help, Files-Songs:
Song files end in ?G? extension.
If the song has a melody the extension will begin with M (otherwise it’s S).
The second letter of the song name is G.
The third letter is the style of the song, 1-9 and A-N for built in styles and U for a User style.
Example: My Song Title.MGU
The M tells us that a Melody is recorded.
The G is always present in song names telling us that it is a song.
The U tells us that the style is a user style.
Example: My Song Title.SG1
The S indicates that no melody is recorded.
The G is always present in song names telling us that it is a song.
The 1 indicates style #1, which is Jazz Swing.

"Hi Steve,
RealBand uses SEQ files, and Band-in-a-Box uses MGU, SGU, and MGX. Any songs that have an audio track will also have a corresponding WAV file.

As Matt and I explained, be careful with just SGU, MGU, and MGX file extensions. In general, that may be all you need, but many of the freely downloadable BIAB files you find on the web may have a number or different letter in the last position - MG1, SG3, MGA, SGH, etc. These correspond to the original styles that came with earlier versions of BIAB (the ZZ styles). Each one is assigned a number (or letter). Early on, you could look at a file name and know which style was used based on that last character.
Pretty much everything is now MGU or SGU (U for User), but just to make sure everything gets backed up, I would use a wildcard in the 3rd character position, hence my previous posting of .MG? and .SG?
