When something strange like that happens to me I start a new song project and copy the chords from old project to new project.

If the program continues to act up as soon as you create a new song project then the settings are likely corrupted and need to be reset.

The third (3rd) selection in the "Options" menu is "Return to Factory Settings ...". When that is selected another window opens (see the top screen shot below). I would remove the check mark and select the second choice, "Return ALL to Factory Settings". You will have to reprogram all your settings again. You can do that by pressing Ctrl + E to open the "Preferences ..." window and selecting all the button options. See the second screen shot below.

When I was first learning the program I had to reset the settings many times. I was REALLY good at messing up the program settings. Over time and with increased experience using the program I don't mess the settings up nearly as often.

One way to reduce the pain of resetting the settings is to create a Preferences file. You can do that by selecting "Options" then "Save Preferences As ..." Then when you need to reset you can use "Options" and "Open Preference File ..." to quickly load your settings.

My last suggestion is to save your song project file often using the "save As" command. Each time you save rename the file using the same name and an incremental number. For example the song file "Corrupt.SGU" will get saved as "Corrupt01.SGU", Corrupt02.SGU" and so on. That way you can retrace your steps and lose less work. This is a good habit to develop with all programs where you're entering a bunch of commands or data.
