I'm new to BIAB and this is what I want to do: I've got a song with real tracks set up. I want to play my guitar along with these tracks to practice and have my guitar go through a vst amp sim (s-Gear). To be clear--I don't need instruction about interface as that's all set up. I'm not interested in recording practice tracks but just want to play through the vst and hear it along with the other tracks. I'm very familiar with other DAWs and have never had a problem figuring this type of thing out but it's just unclear to me... do I grab a track and load the vst onto it and route the guitar through it? How? I know I'm missing something somewhere here but all I've been able to locate is to make a track a "User" track and load media onto it. That's obviously not what I want to do.

I think what you're looking for is called input or echo monitoring. Band-in-a-Box does not offer that feature.

Realband does support this and you probably have it included with your BiaB install if you are on Windows.
May want to try Realband, then post RB specific questions in the Realband forum.

/plus the RB default behavior is to play the same RTs each time until you tell it to regenerate something, so learning a part with the exact same backing tracks acts more as expected

RB is more like a standard DAW than BiaB, but retains the generating capabilities.

I do not work here, but the benefits are still awesome

These may help.

Enable Input Monitoring in Prefs
Assign the track to the Input Monitor port .. then you can stack your FX in the four FX slots as desired

Ok thanks much again! That did it for me. I'm playing with some jazz tracks to learn & not really too interested in recording at this point. Now I can at least sound good. I'm using S-Gear amp modeler (vst) and highly recommend. I'm certain to have more questions. I try a search first but am not to good at that.

Just thought I'd mention this one thing in case you haven't thought of it yet. Since you're using RB to play backing tracks for you, you'll want to hit the "Loop" button, found down in the transport box. This should work even better than BiaB for you, since BiaB pauses between instances of a song, whereas a loop should not show any pauses.

Yes cooltouch I've been doing that. Like with a Wes tune I'll start verrry slow looping and gradually speed it up. Love this program for that.
