Thanks again, Jim.

I've heard some good stuff on this forum. And I have learned a few tricks, too! It's a great place to study.

Jazz Doors!
Cool but the vocals and sax are WAY out front/loud.
I can't tell if the guitar track is appropriate because I can barely hear it - accordion is OK I THINK.
Cool song and performances - the stuff you augmented the RTs with really make this happen.

Cheers

Bob,

Nice. Enjoyed the song. A nice flow and rhythm.

Nice vocal. And nice sax. Both are well recorded. The bass playing is cool (I was wanting to hear it just a bit more - up a dB perhaps - but once my ears keyed on it, it was fine, so that might be "just right").

Really enjoyed the listen.

Welcome to the Showcase.

Bob,
good stuff! I like the raw feel of this, yet done very professionally.
I like slightly dark taste of bass and sax. Vocals are great!
Accordion, is a little buried, but most likely you wanted like that.
I enjoyed it.

Thank you for posting!

Misha.

Well done Mr.BobaLew, I admired the overall vibe on this. Excellent mixdown on all of this and the mix sounds well polished too. Good use of EFX on the guitar. Great work!

Thanks for the good words. The bass was my 5-string electric, an unfamiliar axe to me. (Main tool is my upright, but that comes across as a jazz instrument.) Opted for the plank bass and took advantage of the low string.

The sax - what can I say! The sax man was in studio for other reasons and I wanted him to hear my flute work on this one. (See Gary? I can can blow a horn, too!) He was wailing' before the flute break came up and he was really enjoying it! I did the smart thing and captured the moment - the flute can wait!

This and another comment about the mix kind of hit at a weak spot for me. It may be taste, but it may also be that I just don't have an optimum playback system. I'll revisit my mixes and see what happens.

Thanks again for the words!

Misha-

Encouraging words, and much appreciated!

I buried the accordion because (a) it is a sustained sound and (b) it is ... well ... an accordion. And if word ever got out ...

Seriously, your comments and others about mix issues are needed because it is my weakest skill. I'm not altogether persuaded my playback system is helping, either. Not that I am blaming my tools, mind you.

Thanks for the good words! There are a lot of good things to hear on this forum and I count myself blessed to have feedback from experienced musicians!

Thanks, Joe

I still have plenty to learn about mix. It is a discipline that can really blur the lines between solid engineering and personal taste.

EFX is a weird world, isn't it? That delay goes from imperceptible to overwhelming in the tiniest nudge of a pot/slider. Scares me to go there!

I listened again and you are right - the guitar got buried. When I get a few more projects out of the way I may come back to this one and see what I can make of it.

An earlier mix with flute instead of sax had the guitar higher in the mix. Dropping the sonic range of the solo instrument really changed the whole color of the piece. I should probably go back to the EQ step and brighten the guitar a bit first and then work on balance.

Thanks for listening and commenting!

Thanks, Greg. I am new to the forum. Finding some really good musicianship here and enjoying it. The sax was a happy accident - the guy wasn't supposed to record the tune!

Thanks Dave!

Concerning blues I find that when the bones are right the sinews fill out really well. It doesn't hurt to have a really, really good sax man in the house, by the way! Glad you enjoyed it!
