What was your favourite concert or show that you went to and why? So far I think my favourite was Queen & Adam Lambert, but going to The Killers concert was probably a close second. Another one I quite enjoyed was at the Phoenix Theatre in Toronto when I saw Passenger. I still remember looking him up on Facebook when he had 10k likes, and seeing him again the next year and he was well over 100k likes. Crazy!
Also, is there a concert you had a chance to go to or heard about that was nearby and regret missing it? If so, which one was it and what -- to you -- was special about it?

Allison Krauss & Union Station featuring Jerry Douglas. Perfection in performance as well as the sound engineering were mesmerizing. Close second was Tommy Emmanuel a couple of times

Second Atlanta Pop Festival 1970. Byron Georgia. Jimi Hendrix played The Star Spangled Banner and it was the fourth of July and there was a firework show behind the stage that started when he played the song. And I remember it  Bud PS Hey, Rockstar_not, we have some great Alison Krauss stories and time spent around her during our bluegrass band years. Her mother took her around the country when she was young to see our best friend and 12 time world fiddle champion play. She is a wonderful artist and a genuinely good person.

Leonard Cohen Zurich 2008. A wonderful and memorable evening. I managed to get seats up front (cost a fortune), but it was worth it. The acoustics were fantastic as well, the icing on the cake.
Another great was Ray Charles in Frankfurt. That guy could rock any concert hall!!

John Denver sometime in the 1970s in Cleveland Ohio. He sold out the first concert. The venue started a second, midnight concert. We got back to our cars at 6:30 AM.
Not sure what the crew thought about an all night concert nor the musicians union but it was memorial.
Until I got home. Mom was sure mad.

The one I'm sorry that I missed was Commander Cody and His Lost Planet Airmen. Another good sounding band.

Wow... each one was special in it's own sort of way.....
In no particular order....the ones I can recall offhand.....there was J Guiles band, Marshall Tucker, The Outlaws, Bob Seegar, Mountain, Black Sabbath, Johnny Winters, Poco, Foghat, George Strait, Faith Hill, Tim McGraw, Trisha Yearwood, Kenny Chesney, Jimmy Buffett, Mott The Hoople, Blue Oyster Cult, Deep Purple, Nazarath, Bad Company, Damn Yankees, Peter Frampton, Yes, and of course, Ted Nugent.
But I think my favorite band in concert has to be ZZ Top. I've seen ZZ Top 3 times and they have never disappointed. Not too loud, not too quiet, and always a great show that's worth the cost of admission.
Note: the most technically impressive show in a musical sense was YES. They played note for note like their album cuts.... and that was on the stuff like the song Relayer.
Forgot Wishbone Ash in an old converted movie theater in Camden NJ when it was still safe to go downtown after dark. Tix were $3 and just Wishbone Ash was playing..... excellent show, but still nothing compared to ZZ.

My favorite concert was back in 1985. I was going to school at the Air Force Institute of Technology (as an Army officer) at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base near Dayton, Ohio. Maynard Ferguson was playing at an intimate jazz club in Dayton that he had been the first act some twenty years prior, and his current bass player was a Dayton homeboy, so it was somewhat of a homecoming. The club was small round tables and chairs (about 4 to a table) scattered not too tightly around the venue. When the band got around to playing their version of Pagliacci, the members who could all came out into the audience and played from the audience. Maynard played about 4 feet from where I was sitting. I was mesmerized. I had seen him play live before, but never so up close and personal. Wonderful show and wonderful memories.

OK, I'm going to be the weirdo here.
The best concert I attended was the Czech Philharmonic doing Dvorak's 9th symphony and a few other Eastern European shorter pieces.
It's a symphony I've played in concert band, and during the slow movement, I looked at my wife and it was done so beautifully we both had tears in our eyes.
I don't get to attend many rock concerts because they come around on weekends, and I'm a musician who gigs on the weekends -- occupational hazard.
Many years ago when I was between bands I saw Jethro Tull and The Moody Blues in two separate concerts. I don't remember which one I liked better.
Before that I was in a band that was the opening act for headliners in concert, and they were the most fun.

I've seen a few good ones. 2 that come to mind were David Bowie when he played in Hong Kong and Elton John also when he played in Hong Kong. Both were brilliant, professional and long. 3 hours each.

Some of my favorite concert experiences have been (relatively) no-name artists playing small clubs trying to build a following. It doesn't happen often, but every now and then my son and I have been seated at a table right beside the stage where some mind-blowing musicians we've never heard of are just tearing it up! Maybe 20 patrons in the whole club! Or not!
And the cool thing about those venues is that between sets and after the gig, these guys will talk to the audience and even show you their gear and explain how they get their signature sound.
Also at big venues like Merlefest where they book enough artists to fill 11 stages for 4 days... I have consistently been most impressed by the young artists and semi-pros who are not the headliners. Lots of good bands from Canada (don't ask for names... liking their music doesn't mean I remember their names) and some from Ireland.
As far as memorable rock acts: Seeing Led Zeppelin at the Pittsburgh Civic Arena in '69 (or '70?) was memorable.
Always wanted to see Deep Purple, but it never happened. One of my later bands had an organist with a B3 who loved Jon Lord, so I got to learn all those interesting Ritchie Blackmore guitar solos.

A friend had a brand new '55 Chevy and the three of us drove down to Minneapolis to see Johnny Cash and The Tennessee Two in concert.
Guitarist Luther Perkins and his then-unique boom chuck style was getting very popular across genres. I was amazed to see him stand stick straight while bringing the entire audience to their feet with his solos.
In the movie "I Walk The Line," Luther was depicted as perpetually smoking but it was not portrayed as the cause of his premature death which was his smoking in bed.
PS: We also had many top-name entertainment while in the Army in Germany but I don't consider them to be 'concerts'.

Some of my favorite concert experiences have been (relatively) no-name artists playing small clubs trying to build a following. I have noticed that I tend to prefer more intimate settings when listening to folks live. I feel like you either need to do small and intimate or big and over-the-top. The really high-end production concerts I've been to have been phenomenal, but the smaller shows I've been to where it feels like it's just you and a few other people where the musician stops to tell you a bit about each song really sets a family-esque/friendly tone are also right up there for me.

Sometimes the journey is just as important as the actual show or concert itself. Going to a show with friends always makes it memorable for me. I'll actually be heading over to Vancouver later this year for a concert, and my friends and I will be taking a shuttle from downtown Victoria to the ferries, which will take us across the pond to Vancouver. The tickets were a Christmas gift to me, and I've been really wanting to see this particular group for a while and just assumed they'd always be sold out. The fact that I get to go on an adventure with my best friends and share a live music experience with them is something I can't wait to do! I always build my best connections with people when we can share those kinds of experiences together. Johnny Cash would have been another amazing one to see!
