Very cool tune Kenny. Super vocal and really like the way you mixed the vocal. Harmonies were very cool as well.

Well composed ballad!
Good balance of instrumentals and vocals.
I liked this part:
"Here in the city of angels
There’s so many broken hearts
Lost souls are out there
Sleepwalking down the boulevard"
The vocal "ooohs" was a nice addition, but if you are up for suggestions, I think they end a little sharp, maybe small reverb tail would smooth endings?

Hey Misha, Thank you for the listen and kind words, I don't ever mind hearing a critique from someone, I listened again with my focus on the oohs and heard them cut off a little abruptly in one place, so it probably happens more than that in the song. It's always better to have a second set of ears on something. I wasn't paying a lot of attention to them, what I hear is all the vocal parts that could be better. I don't like doing vocal punch-ins if I can help it. I decided that the emotional feel captured was worth keeping. Anyway, thanks for the input.

You are simply a tangle of excessive talent on two feet. This is wonderful. To me it doesn't sound like anyone but Kenny L. And that's one helluva great sound to have. So many great lines and the production and delivery are impeccable. This is what good - no great - music is supposed to sound like. I'm in awe and appreciation of your many talents. Very nice, Kenny! I think this might be your best vocal yet, very emotive.
Great writing too, lots of good lines, my favorite:

Just when we figure you can't raise the bar any higher along comes this! You just set the piano on fire and exited the stage  It's a real gift to have your talent but when you ice it by having such a signature sound...man! As a friend says "this is as strong as a garlic milkshake!" I think we're gonna have to watch the Petty documentary "Chasing a Dream" again...soon. We could pick out all the goodness and list it but it's all good - every big and small part of the performance, write and production. Wow! J&B

Very nice melody and chording. "Of all the memories I’m keeping the good ones" - touching lyrics as well. Well mixed full powerful arrangement, I especially like the piano, maybe some section would have worked also with just piano backing.
Janne Thanks Janne, I appreciate your kind words, I did try a verse stripped down to just piano, bass, and drums it didn't work as well to my ear, so I dropped the piano out towards the end and then brought it back for a build on the overall sound.

Apart from being a cool story song it's a classic example of working with family rhyming - plosives, fricatives and nasals.
Perfect rhymes aren't always perfect for a song - this makes that case really well. Hey Ray, Thanks for your listen and kind words.

Kenny, Great write and of course the vocals deliver the goods. I loved the chord progression and the piano. Now whenever I pass by Gainesville I will think of this super song. It don’t get much better than this, Tom Tom, Thanks for your listen and kind words, if this song lives on for you then I am very pleased. I love your new song.

You seem to be on a roll at the moment - everything you do just gets better and better.
This is the sort of song in which you just get immersed and lose yourself for four minutes or so.
I found my self drifting along with that super-relaxed backing track and being absorbed by the lyric.
Fabulous stuff.

Good write, kind of reminds me of a song the Eagles would write. Lots of musicians can relate to this story as so many try, but it's not in the cards. Love the melancholy but the appreciation and recognition.
