I took your advice and it cut the noise down a good bit. It was something most people wouldn't hear but I would flinch every time I listened to it.

2b If that helped as much as it did, move the rubber band to different spots on the string between the nut and the tuning machine and try different thicknesses of rubber band. You should be able to find a combo that kills it completely. I had a Strat with that issue.
