Well sure, that's where I come from and melancholy is very much a trend in the music of this part of the world, so in a piece like this, which is essentially all about grief, such influences would be expected.
As my preference, I thought it would be better to leave the ending with Tonic minor chord.
There's a theory that says that 'Acceptance' is the final stage of grief, and that was the idea behind my use of a major chord at the end here - a glint of hope, if you will.
I have a feeling that this 'trick' is more of a trend of the West than East(?), and probably more so in american music than european. It certainly was a big 'trend' in american pop music back in the 80's, when this was originally written (Lionel Richie's "
Hello " is a prime example), a bit of that thing that in the english language is called "on a positive note", only applied very literally to music here.
