Movie soundtracks is a special breed of music. The music has to match the movie. With the right music the viewer instantly can recall a movie scene decades later. If you hear "Dah Dum, dah dum, dah dum" you can visualize the shark fin sticking out of the water. When you hear the music you visualize Clint Eastwood staring down the bad guy. The same with Star Wars. The music score elevated the movie to the next level. Every space adventure that followed had to have the full orchestra score and majestic theme. How much more memorable can you be than to be emulated by all that follow?
That's a really great point! Have you ever seen the making of the score for Zootopia? If not, I'd suggest looking in to it. It's really amazing all the work that went in to crafting the perfect soundtrack, even just for the background music you don't always realize is there. I'd love to go back and watch Star Wars and see if there was any background music I hadn't picked up on that enhanced the scene.
