I want to enter a 3 part round using 3 different midi instruments. I know we have the soloist and the melody track to work with. Is there a way to get a third track?

There are a couple of things you could do, although once you get past the melody and soloist tracks, you would probably be better off creating your song in a DAW.

1. Record one of the parts to the melody, and then turn the melody into a performance track. This will convert the track to audio and you would need to assign it to one of the other accompaniment tracks (which means you then can't use that track for accompaniment), since you'll need the melody track again. You can easily move the track by renaming it accordingly (you should probably exit BIAB and then reopen it after renaming the track). You can then record the second part to melody track and the third part to the soloist track. Look for "Performance Tracks" in the help index for more information. You can right click on the "Melody" radio button, and then in the popup menu select "Track Actions, Save Track as Performance File".

2. Similarly, you can record one part from the melody track to an audio file with the same base name as your BIAB file. This would then become the audio track for your song. Then you can record the other two parts to the melody and soloist tracks respectively. You can right click on the "Melody" radio button, and then in the popup menu select "Track Actions, Save Track as WAV File". The default file name will append "BBMelody_MIDI_SingleRender" to the file name; just remove that part of the file name so it matches your song file name.

Hope this helps.

HI Lesley
Another approach would be to open the song up (unfold) to one continuous Chorus
No repeats, You can change the midi voice on say the soloist or melody track as many times for as many bars as you want using F5 bar settings.
Once changed it will continue with that voice until you change it again at a later bar’
You can also mute voices on and off this way.
This is very useful as if say you had a piano on the melody track you could bring it in or out but let it still be there should you change your mind.
While at the same time, swap between any number of soloist voices for as many bars or times you want with or without the piano.
And many other variations of this way of working.

Mike

Thanks for the help guys!

I decided in the end to record the song 3 different times and put the results together in Camtasia (software for recording what is on the computer screen) because I wanted the music for the 3 different parts to appear simultaneously. I used the tick marks at the beginning to line up the 3 recordings as best I could (it is not perfect).

I did unfold the song. The second time I recorded I added 8 empty bars at the beginning, and muted the accompaniment for all but the last 8 bar. I also changed the colour of the background each time.

For the 3rd repeat I just had to add another 8 bars at the start.

I found it sounded better to use exactly the same midi for all three.
