It has been a while since I enjoyed recording a song as much as I have this one. Actually, It has been a while since I recorded anything. It is a description of an actual happening, during my youth. It may have been the beginning of my life in music. I hope you enjoy it. This is, more or less, a work in progress, but I thought I would post it as is, since it has been so long since I have posted anything.

Grandma's Old Dome top Guitar

Back in the fifties, when I was a lad
my favorite memory by far
was a beat up old Gibson stored under the bed
My Grandma's old dome top guitar
the finish was faded, so she painted white
the coolest thing I ever saw
and I knew that someday, if there was a way
I'd play that old dome top guitar

She'd always sing, "Irene good night"
she'd sing "Irene good night"
the only song that my Granny knew
was "Irene good night"

She played with her finger laid across the neck
the way that I've seen Dolly do
Granny didn't know an E from A
it's the only way that she knew

I can hear her singing, "Irene good night"
she only sang, "Irene good night"
The only song that my Granny knew
was "Irene good night"

Late in the day, when the chores were all done
Grandma would snooze by the fire
I'd be in the back with a grin on my face
picking on her old white guitar

but I never sang "Irene good night"
I never sang "Irene good night"
I sang Hank Elvis and Acuff and Cash
but I never sang "Irene Good night"
