Thanks to all the fine folks who offered their critique on my piece. I have taken up your suggestions and followed up with a re-mix:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l9I6-BK9eho

Here's a re-post of my original information:

For the piece, I used "Power Tracks Pro" 2018 exclusively. I arranged, performed and mixed the piece; my friend Maggie Rose sang the lyrics. Created in my home studio in Calgary, Alberta. Sounds are from Garritan and IK Multimedia Vsti plugins.

Verse 1:

Morning comes and sings a brand new song,
Music fills the air,
A hopeless past to overwhelm the soul,
Has no place to bare.

Verse 2:

Peace transcends and fills an empty heart,
Bringing forth faith and love.
Doubts break and daylight warms the soul,
A new time's begun.

Chorus:

I don't know why I see light in the sky,
When the journey's cold but He sacrificed.
Making a way to overcome this life
I will never be in doubt and hurt again,
Love will win.

Verse 3:

Day time sun sets and brings on the night,
Melody sings so gently, softly.
Light eternal leads the path so bright,
Hope for another day.

SOLO

Chorus:

I don't know why I see light in the sky,
When the journey's cold but He sacrificed.
Making a way to overcome this life
I will never be in doubt and hurt again,
Love will win.

I will never be in doubt and hurt again,
Love will win.

Nice work! I do feel this is an improvement, not that the other one wasn't good of course! Really stunning work - flow gorgeously and is pristine on the ears. That gradually buildup is truly beautiful.

Thanks for sharing smile

I couldn't compare it to the original version...
But this version sounds good...
Maggie did an outstanding job on the vocals.

Great work on this Leeky, thanks for sharing this! I found this very easy to listen and I really dug the chord progression. The vocals harmonize well with the other instruments. Thanks for sharing!

I don't think I heard the original so a comparison is one that I can't make. However this is super. I really liked the backing tracks. The vocal was super as were the lyrics.

I wouldn't change a thing to this!

OK, a random thought;

Hi Lorne,

This is such good listening! First class from beginning to end.

Maggie's singing is sublime and you've made it shines all the more because of your outstanding arranging and composing. As I'm sitting here listening, every aspect of the audio that I'm hearing sits really comfortably on my ears.

I loved the journey you've just taken me on.

All the best,
Noel

Lorne,
This brightened my morning - a simple, well written message with a familiar sounding melody ( nothing wrong with that!)and an excellent vocal from Maggie Rose.
Really enjoyable, uplifting music.

Agreed!! I don't remember the original mix that well, but this one is beautifully done....vocal is sweet, strings are great, and guitar solo fits perfectly! Great job!! Take care. Greg
