I made the mistake of assigning an instrument to the thru channel in BIAB. Ever since I cannot get rid of it. I have selected "Select no MIDI patch" but it still keeps returning, annoyingly with all songs. Any idea how to get rid of this? Presently I have to mute it over and over.

Why is this a problem it will only sound if you play your keyboard.
Also you can change it to any other midi voice that you have available on your synth.
The set no midi voice you mention is in fact as it says
set no midi patch change.
There for the synth will still play the last voice you sent to it (note the word change)

I always thought that a default sound was always present on the Thru channel. As Mike says, it's the external input channel.

Yes that is indeed the case as Noel says if you don't select anything else you will get the default midi piano.
msb 000 lsb 000 patch 000 acoustic piano.

I never play my 700NX through BIAB I have just had too many issues with doing this. I play the keyboard along with tracks - outside the box.MIDI is plugged in because of Cubase. I never had any sound coming through the thru port until I messed around with it a month or so ago, now I get it everytime, I dont need or want that and have to head straight for the mute button on every song. I just want to turn it off again permanently and have not found a way

If you don't want MIDI input from your keyboard, why not just disable MIDI input in the MIDI input/output options screen by not selecting any device (selecting "No MIDI/sound input")? That way, it won't know to accept MIDI input from your keyboard. You can always re-select later if you need it.
