I should have waited until tomorrow to ask the question, "Did anyone go see "Yesterday, yesterday?" but I didn't.

Anyhow, the movie release date is today in the US.+++ Yesterday Movie Website +++

The Story

Yesterday, everyone knew The Beatles. Today, only Jack remembers their songs. He’s about to become a very big deal. From Academy Award®-winning director Danny Boyle (Slumdog Millionaire, Trainspotting, 28 Days Later) and Richard Curtis, the Oscar-nominated screenwriter of Four Weddings and a Funeral, Love Actually and Notting Hill, comes a rock-n-roll comedy about music, dreams, friendship, and the long and winding road that leads to the love of your life.

Jack Malik (Himesh Patel) is a struggling singer-songwriter in a tiny English seaside town whose dreams of fame are rapidly fading, despite the fierce devotion and support of his childhood best friend, Ellie (Lily James). Then, after a freak bus accident during a mysterious global blackout, Jack wakes up to discover that The Beatles have never existed … and he finds himself with a very complicated problem, indeed.

Performing songs by the greatest band in history to a world that has never heard them, and with a little help from his steel-hearted American agent, Debra (Emmy winner Kate McKinnon), Jack’s fame explodes. But as his star rises, he risks losing Ellie — the one person who always believed in him. With the door between his old life and his new closing, Jack will need to get back to where he once belonged and prove that all you need is love.

Featuring 17 new versions of The Beatles’ most beloved hits.

Interesting viewpoint, Mike. There's no right or wrong way, but do you feel like you might be in the minority with that stance?

Yes I do, I think it may have been down to over exposure in the UK, but songs like Please please me Yellow submarine and Help
or even Michael drive me nuts,

Actually I'm in Mike's camp. I liked the St. Pepper album and some after that but I didn't like their earlier stuff.

When the British invasion happened I was into The Animals, The Stones, The YardBirds and John Mayall & The Blues Breakers. YMMV

I might when it comes to Netflix (via the mail - I don't have cable or an antenna)

I liked a lot of the Beatles songs and didn't like others.

The premise of the is a little silly to me. The Beatles were a function of their era, and their songs wouldn't be received the same way in any other era.

They were in the right place at the right time and with the right connections. If they came around in the 1940s or early 2000s they wouldn't have been as huge and there would be no Beatlemania.

But it's a way to recycle the songs and movies are fantasies anyway so if I decide to watch it, I won't let the premise get in the way.

I enjoy watching most movies where music is a dominate force. Somebody will have a brainstorm one day and start a music movie channel. There is such a rich history of music related movies. The Fred Astaire movies, singing cowboy movies (Roy Rogers, Tex Ritter, Gene Autry for example), movies with musician cameos (anyone notice Hoagy Carmichael singing to Lauren McCall while Humphrey Bogart drowns in booze at the bar in "To Have And Have Not"), the 1960s Beach Party movies, and biographies.

Great idea! It might be enough to get me to watch TV again wink

Add Battleship Potemkin and other 'silent' movies with great scores to the list.

I'd like to see it, but not sure if I want to see it on the Big Screen or not yet. I saw Rocketman recently and I've been dying to go see it again before it's out of theaters. We shall see. Maybe I can make it a double feature.

While we are on the subject...

I saw the Freddy Mercury\Queen movie on the plane. Very disappointed. Likely due to the poor sound quality sitting with earbuds in middle seat. Or it could have been the Queen story was just dull! crazy

I definitely want to see it.

I'll wait until it's on netflix though. I'm not a big fan of going to the movie theatres, too many commercials before the movies starts.

They changed a lot of facts in order to make the story more "interesting" to. The music was good though, so I think the earbuds might have been the culprit there!

I was ambivalent about the Beatles until I started writing lots of songs. Once that started I began to appreciate all of the nuance and clever tricks they used to keep the hits cranking out. I probably won’t see this movie until it hits Netflix because the whole premise of the movie seems to be played out in the trailer.

I think Notes has a good point that so many of the songs are of a time and wouldn’t be the megabits for the ages if they were introduced today. But others are timeless and with a big personality could have been introduced today to great success.

What if all of the music inspired by the Beatles sounds never existed and their tricks were just now getting introduced?

For a big list of the tricks, an online friend hosts a website called The Beatles Songwriting Academy and he has a list of “Tickets to Write” which you should definitely check out. Try some of them on your own.

--No Spoilers--

I saw it. I really enjoyed it. I thought it was going to run a typical plot line; and it didn't. There was certainly a gasp worthy moment...as that was what I heard the audience do. I thought it was well thought out.

I hope that helps with almost saying nothing...I should write for politicians trying to get elected. smile

Went to see it at the theater. Big bus outside was giving two free tickets if I gave blood. So I decided to step in and then to wait till the next day and go with my free ticket.

No Spoilers...

Well, I loved it. I am not ashamed to say I had tears in my eyes at time. The music is wonderful and so is the story. If you are an aspiring song writer you will love it too. And yes I am a big Beatles fan. But this is one cool story.

The only problem was I drank a huge frozen coke (A medium) which cost me over $7 and twice I had to run to the bathroom during the show. I will have to see it again for the few minutes I missed.

I saw it and loved it. The music was great, and there were quite a number of humorous moments.

I liked that it didn't end with it all being a dream, which has been used too many times.
