I don't think that keeping the default for these items is such a bad idea. If they were left unresolved we can imagine the number of questions that would show up on this forum when a new user tries to write a song. Why can't I get a chorus, how many bars in my song, etc
I do think that allowing a user to set the default via the preferences, and having that default stay is preferable, but realistically this is a pretty low level request. It's easy to set the defaults now, either by changing them on the screen or by the methods listed in this thread.
This is situation that probably only occurs a couple of times for everyone until they understand how to use the product, and then it never happens again.

It's an idea that could probably have been implemented years ago but never was. I might even see more problems when users that have 'grown up' with the system now have to set defaults.

In my opinion there are more important things to work on
