Hi everybody,

haven't been here for a long time, because being a regular member to more than one forum (I'm around the User showcase quite a lot) takes more time than I have. I hope that you're not mad at me and will nevertheless help me with your RB expertise.

I bought the KLI version of Funk Soul Horns 2 (i. e. for usage with Kontakt 5) a couple of days ago, because it seemd to offer an enormous lot.

I do know how to use Kontakt with samples like Vintage Horns etc. but I don't get how that FSH2 software must be used.

What I can do:

Connecting an RB MIDI track to Kontakt 5 and then drag a FSH2 .nki file into it, so I can edit the loops.

Before I bought the thing I had thought that it would bounce the edited loop into a WAV that I could drag/drop into an RB audio track (comparable to drawing a drum pattern from a drum pattern generator into an RB MIDI track), but this is not possible.

Embarrassingly enough, I have to admit that I don't have the slightest idea how to get any edited loop into RealBand.

There seems to be no manual at all, so I contacted Big Fish's (very friendly and fast) support, but what they told me doesn't help me at all - they never worked with RealBand and thus don't know if RB can do that, too, but they said thatm most DAWs can record a plug-in (which, of course, would be the solution).

No idea if RB can do that, too, but my respective attempts led to absolutely no result (apart from wrecked nerve,s that is).

Maybe one of you guys has some experience in using FSH2 (or other softwaare workling with KLI).

Thanks a lot in advance for your kind support !!!!

Cheers,

Stefan

Hi Stefan,

There are a couple of things I can think of.

Are you using a full version of Kontakt or Kontakt Free? Big Fish's KLI series does not work with KonTakt Free. Per the website:
Quote:
You must have a FULL version of Kontakt4/5 to use this product.

Try inserting Kontakt in Aux 2, 3 or 4 of a track.

+++ HERE +++ is a forum discussion with different ideas to get VSTi (generic not specifically KonTakt) to work with RealBand.

Hi Jim,

thanks a lot for your fast reply.

Yes, I'm using the full Kontakt 5 version (v. 5.8), and like I wrote I can drag the .nki patch into the Kontakt window and edit the loop perfectly.

But how do I get the edited loop, once I adapted pitch and BMP, mixed the single instruments, FXed everything etc., into my RealBand project?

After all, the loop does have to appear in an audio track, so I can move, duplicate, cut, paste it within my project, right?

Normally (well, mostly... ) I get along with software stuff pretty well, but in this case I feel like an ox standing in front of a new barn door (stupid German saying, haha).

It's completely different from the way samples (like Vintage Horns) are being used with Kontakt (i.e.
simply routing a MIDI track with a given melody to K5). Just don't get the picture...

In any video dealing with KLI I have watched so far (and in the FSH2 'walkthrough' vid as eell) they show how you can manipulate the loops within the K5 window, but they never explain how to get the result into your DAW, which makes me feel like it must be so easy and logical that everyone (except stupid me...) immediately knows how it works. I'm afraid I will need a step by step tutorial, something like 'KLI for dummies').

Once again thanks for your reply, Jim,

Kind regards,

Stefan

If you can hear it you should at the very least be able solo it, send it out the sound card output and record it back in to another track in RB.
You can probably do the above 'inside the machine' but that depends on your sound card or audio interface and your knowledge of how to use it.

You may also be able to 'Render' it to it's own wav file and import that back into RB as another thing to try.
In this case, again, Solo the track and then Render Audio and DXi tracks to wave file.. or possibly even just Save Track to file may work. (If RB asks about silence at the beginning answer Yes; it helps line things up when you import to the beginning of the song)

Just a couple ideas. I generally use hardware more than softsynths, but the above options *should* yield some joy.
Because I use hardware I am commonly sending the recorded signal (usually MIDI) out and recording the resulting audio back in, which is just a variation of my first suggestion above. I have also sent audio out, ran it thru some device and recorded it back in, so it should work.

I do not work here, but the benefits are still awesome

Hi everybody,

man, ain't that embarrassing...

I may have been among the 2018 PG User Showcase winners, but I voluntarily apply for the 2019 'PG Dummy of the Year (second to none) Award' even now !!!!!

My general mistake was that I was profoundly convinced that FSH2 was a construction kit for loops which finally delivers loops in audio form.

When I woke up this morning all of a sudden the scales fell from my eyes: No audio, but loops and their respective keys are being triggered by two single MIDI notes. Of course, what else...

Oh boy, how stupid can you get....

Sorry to all of you for wasting your time on such a stupid question, and thank you very much, Jim and rharv for your kind support - I appreciate it a lot.

Cheers,

Stefan

I'm VERY glad the issue is resolved.

It was not a stupid question. You're trying to develop a workflow for using a new tool. I did not think the question was silly at all.
