Last week I was watching a documentary about a specific year in the past. It included footage from a lot of events that happened in that year and also music which were typical for that period and it brought a lot of memories back to me.

I decided to sit down and try to compose and produce a small piece of music that could have been a typical tune from that year.

Can you guess the decade or maybe even the exact year I was thinking of? smile

Disco In July

I will reveal the year and the BiaB-tracks I used later.

Will,
cool track with funky flavor!

Ok...A riddle huh? I can feel some influence of Stevie Wonder, George Clinton, Boney M...
I would say 1977.

Thank you for sharing!

No idea what year, but I'm guessing polyester stocks were high. Really smooth funk. A very enjoyable listen.

Nice arrangement on this one, and I like the groove.

Year? 70's for sure. '74 is taken so I'll go with '75.

Very well done, Will. Excellent mix.

You captured the era, for sure.

I'd say '72.

Nicely done smile Flows tremendously well, and that groove is fantastic. I can imagine this filling a dancefloor in no time. I can imagine a soul vocalist doing this some justice. As for the year - it's a bit harder for me since I wasn't alive yet, but I certainly agree with the consensus that it was some time in the 70's.

Great work, and thanks so much for sharing!

Oh yes, my high school years. I need to grab my polyester and my pseudo gold chains. Cool tune and production. I was waiting for some falsetto vocals smile.

Nice little disco funk, good mix. For a year... I would think around Saturday Night Fever so maybe 1977.

As for a date... I can't say...
Like I mentioned in another post...

In the spirit of full disclosure we must confess to having never listened to disco...

But the funk (which we have listened to smile ) groove offers a great entry into the song - a song that we enjoyed.

So given the funk overlay we would guess early 70's???

Regardless of when this was a fun groove to listen to today!

I've not, intentionally, listened to disco music - sometimes it has been unavoidable now that it is in soundtracks and radio again.
I think you've about cracked it though I'd imagine the strings soaring a couple of times but I know the prog doesn't really do that.
Disco versus punk - for me punk always won.

Cheers

Thanks so much to all of you for listening and participating in this little - and silly - contest.

I think all of you got the decade - the 70's - correct, but only one had the exact and correct year: 1975.

Dave "BlueAttitude" is the winner and now have the rights to call himself a "disco expert"! smile

Thanks again for taking time to listen!

Fun listen!

But - out of curiosity - is it about 1975 that's associated with the track?

Inquiring minds want to know! wink

Vocal control, you say. Never heard of it. Is that some kind of ProTools thing?

Dear Will,

a DISCO song... !!!!

I might say: Finally. Surfing through the RealStyles I came across those disco styles very often and I always thought I should write a song using one of them. But never had any concrete idea. Now you come up with this great tune - you are, no doubt about that, one of the most versatile composers in this forum, and you again convinced me with this number.

It not only brought back memories - in 1975 I wouldf never have admitted that I might enjoy Disco, because I thought it was not a good successot to the kind of black music I liked so much, but, of course, I couldn't withstand that rhythm either.

Always love and enjoy your work very, very, very much !!!!

Cheers,

Stefan
