Hi folks, Well, guess I missed all the holidays, hope you all had a good one. Here's a new old tune. This is a Leadbelly song and played on a tuned down 12-string. Hope you like it and if you're so inclined I'd be happy to receive any comments or questions on it. Well I loved it. The guitar riffs were classic and you played them well and did them justice. The lyrics actually gave me a shutter as they painted a picture of the story. This tune gives us a glimpes of how blues guitar started. Thanks for sharing.

First time I've heard this original, Peter - really sweet. A folk singer out of Boston in the 60s named Tom Rush did a version of Duncan and Brady - possibly based on the bluegrass version - tempo about the same as Simon's "The Boxer". Carried a line in the version: "Been on the job too long".
You've got a nice way with these heritage/root classics.

It is a great story song, like Stagger Lee or Frankie and Johnny. Saloon or bar shootings are
pretty common. When I was playing in bars in West Virginia in the seventies, every place we played
I always heard, "well, be careful somebody got shot here last week"! I never had a problem though.

Hi Ian, Yes, I heard a bluegrass group on U-Tube do that version and it had an unusual line. "Twinkle , twinkle, little star, here comes Brady in his electric car." Brady is usually a bad or too tough cop in the song. Evidently based on a true story. Thanks, yeah, I'm starting to look like I was around when this happened?

Yeh that's another line from the Tom Rush version. Followed by "He's got a mean look right in his eye, he's gonna shoot somebody just to see him die . . . been on the job too long." Belated Happy - I'm only a triplet behind you.  Ian
