Hello everyone.

I hope someone can please assist with this ..

I have completed a newarrangement in BIAB chord chart window.

I have implemented several volume and real tracks instrument changes via a right-click into "Bars Settings" and made changes this way in several different places\measures within the chart for different instruments.

Normally, each time I right click on a bar and select "bar settings" and make a new setting (e.g. adjusting an instrument volume up or down, mute an instrument or add a new real track in that measure, there is normally a red line appearing in the actual measure location. (this is what has always occurred in my 3 or so years with BIAB, and, once the file is saved, the bar settings changes are saved with it). Yes? .. well it's not happening.

I have made changes as described above and saved the SGU file. Whn I return, the changes are all gone!

On later opening BIAB and opening that same file ... I find that all the new adjustments I have made in 'bar settings' have vanished (new real tracks changes, instrument volume changes, muted instruments etc have all reverted to nothing and all previously saved adjustments to the song no longer exist. (In other words, when I right click on Bar Settings .. everything has reverted to a blank default setting for each instrument)

I have repeated the process again and implemented the same adjustments into the Bar Settings (such a muting drums where required, setting drums "back to normal" where required, reducing guitar volume for several measures etc., and other changes) .. I have done this all the way through the chart .. I save the file again, I close BIAB open it up again, load the song to find all the changes are lost again????

The chords in the sing are there and visible, the repeats are correct and visible, the pushes, holds etc are all there as needed but all changes made via Bar Settings to any individual track\instrument are completely lost. This has repeatedly occurred over the past 24 hours and I have not altered my system or added anything new in that time.

PLEASE HELP! This is extremely frustrating.

Thank you,

Gary.

Gary,

What version of BIAB are you running?

Have you tried returning to factory settings? (This is under the Options menu.) I always use the "MOST" settings option first. Prior to doing that, though, I suggest saving your present settings -- this is also a selection under the Options menu.

Regards,
Noel

Hi Noel, thanks for your reply.
I have gone to options and selected Return TO Factory Settings ...

Before returning to factory settings I made some initial changes in the first few measures in teh chart, I then saved the file - closed and re-opened BIAB. It appears to have "held" the changes. THANK YOU!

I have no idea what caused this.., the other thing I just noticed was (prior to returning to factory settings) it also wasn't loading a loop file in the mixer which had previously been saved with the song file several times. WHen opening teh song file the loop file was no there.

I'll keep trying now and hopefully (thanks to your suggestion) I can complete all required changes again and this time hopefully keep them, I'll let you know how I go asap.

Thanks again! so much,
Cheers!

Hello Again.,
well I spoke too soon.

The "return to factory settings" seemed to help although it's been short-lived. After returning to factory settings and making my required changes to instruments via "Bar Settings" it initially worked ... (i.e. I was able to close down the program and re-open it later on to pick up where I left off).

THEN .. an hour later I opened BIAB to complete the same file and all previous changes made via Bar Settings were COMPLETELY GONE AGAIN! (arrangement window has remained the same but all changes to individual measures via bar settings have been removed to nothing!

This is a big issue for me as I find no new arrangement file works satisfactorily without making at least some modifications to instruments via Bar Settings option.

Now at a complete loss.

Do you have version 2018 build 267? (check Band-in-a-Box menu | About)

Also, are you on an admin or standard account on the Mac? (check System Prefs -> users) Which OS?

You should download and reinstall this to be sure, as it will also fix any permissions problems with the Band-in-a-Box folder there might be.
https://www.pgmusic.com/support_macintoshupdates.htm

I'm not sure what could be causing it, are you sure that you are opening the same file? It seems like the most likely cause is that it's not the same file somehow...

- For example, if you started with MySong.SGU and added a melody, it's going to save it as MySong.MGU. Perhaps you are opening MySong.SGU?

- Or, maybe the same song saved in two different locations and/or you're running Band-in-a-Box from your hard drive vs. internal drive? Next time you save the file, give it a unique name

- If it's not somehow a duplicate file or permissions problem, are you able to link to or email a file with this problem so that we can take a look?

Hi Andrew,
thanks for your reply.

I have version 2018 build 267 and running on MacOSX 10.14.6 with 2 user accounts, (my own main admin account plus a guest a\c for my wife which never gets used anyway)

I have checked my BIAB song folder and I have only the one song file (i.e. MySong.SGU) and while I do have external drives for storage and backup, I do not save my songs on external drives.

I will download the update you have linked and get back to you with what happens next.

Ok... please send the song in to support referencing this post, and we'll take a look. Ideally, include "before" and "after" version of the song. (the 'after' version being the one that should contain bar settings).

Hi Andrew and Noel96, downloading and re-installing the https://www.pgmusic.com/support_macintoshupdates.htm update
seems to have fixed it. (I had previously installed this update but re-installing it appears to have rectified the issue. (I have no clue to what may have caused this problem)

I was able to enter instrument and dynamic changes via Bar Settings and save the SGU file out, close BIAB and when re-opening the prior changes were saved and all correct.

So (for now) I believe the issue to be resolved thank you!

I do have one other query which I have not been able to find in the manual .... when implementing "pushes and holds" in a chord chart that has chorus repeats, how do I set the pushes and holds to occur on the repeat and not on the 1st time through? (or vice-versa)??

I understand it's possible to do this but have no idea how to make pushes\holds play one time and not on the repeat chorus..

Many thanks,
Gary.

Jazz, Funk & World (Sets 468-475):
Our new jazz, funk & blues RealTracks include a groovin’ collection of RealTracks and RealDrums! These include more requested “soul jazz” RealTracks featuring artists Neil Swainson (bass), Charles Treadway (organ), Brent Mason (guitar), and Wes Little (drums). There are new “smooth jazz” styles (4), which include a RealTracks first: muted trumpet, as well as slick new smooth jazz brushes options for drums. Blues lovers will be thrilled—there are more “classic acoustic blues” styles, including guitar (5), bass (4), and drums (10) with blues master Colin Linden, featuring understated and tasty background acoustic soloing, plus brushes drums and acoustic bass. There are also new electric blues RealTracks, including electric blues with PG favorite Johnny Hiland (3) and soulful electric slide guitar from Colin Linden (4). If you love funk & gospel, there are great new options this year, including gospel organ (3) from Charles Treadway, as well as new funk, tango, and rock ’n’ roll drums (3) and bass (1). And for big, bold arrangements, we have uptempo soul horns (4) featuring a three-part hip horn section with options for a full mix or stems of each individual horn — plus an accompanying rhythm section (4) of drums, bass, guitar, and electric piano!

Rock & Pop (Sets 476–482):
Our new rock & pop RealTracks bring a powerful mix of requested favorites, fresh genres, and modern chart-inspired styles! We have more of our popular “Producer Layered Acoustic Guitars (15)” featuring Band-in-a-Box favorite Brent Mason. We’ve continued our much-requested disco styles (10), and added new Celtic guitar (5) with a more basic, accessible approach than our previous Drop-D or DADGAD offerings. There are also highly requested yacht rock styles (17), inspired by the smooth, polished soft-rock sound of the late ’70s and early ’80s — laid-back grooves, silky electric pianos, warm textures, elegant harmonic movement, and pristine production aesthetics. Fans of heavier styles will love our new glam metal (13), capturing the flashy, high-energy sound of ’80s arena-ready guitar rock. We also have a set of rootsy modern-folk rock (18), with a warm, organic sound combining contemporary folk textures and driving acoustic strumming. And we’ve added lots of new modern pop styles (16) — the kinds of sounds you’re hearing on the radio today, featuring exciting new drums, synths, and cutting-edge RealTracks arrangements.

Country, & Americana (Sets 483–488):
Our new country & Americana RealTracks deliver a rich collection of acoustic, electric, and roots-inspired styles! We have new country pop (9) with legendary guitarist Brent Mason. There is also a potpourri (14) of bouzouki, guitars, banjo, and more, perfect for adding texture and character to contemporary acoustic arrangements. We’ve added funky country guitar (5) with PG favorite Brent Mason, along with classic pedal steel styles (5) featuring steel great Doug Jernigan. There are more country songwriter styles (8) that provide intimate, rootsy foundations for storytelling and modern Americana writing. Finally, we have “background soloing” acoustic guitar (12) with Brent Mason — simpler, but still very tasty acoustic lines designed to sit beautifully behind vocals or act as a subtle standalone solo part.

Check out all the 202 new RealTracks (in sets 468-488)!

And, if you are looking for more, the 2026 49-PAK (for $49) includes an impressive collection of 20 bonus RealTracks, featuring exciting and inspiring additions to add to your RealTracks library. You'll get new country-rhythm guitar styles from PG Music favorites Johnny Hiland and Brent Mason, along with modern-pop grooves that capture today’s radio-ready sound! There are also new indie-folk styles with guitar, bass, 6-string bass used as a high-chording instrument, acoustic guitar, and banjo. Plus, dedicated "cymbal fills" RealDrums provide an added layer that work very well with low-key folky styles with other percussion.

The 2026 49-PAK is loaded with other great new add-ons as well. Learn more about the 2026 49-PAK!
