The skin includes the PSD templates you can open with GIMP The PANELS folder is the color behind the icons you can change them to whatever color you like also set the Black layer in the PSD to that same color.
Copy the Skins folder "Large Color on Dark Gray" to bb\Data\CustomSkins Copy the Large Color on Dark Gray.csc to bb\Data\Schemes
(In older BB Rename C:\bb\Data\Images\MainScreenButtons\ > MainScreenButtons - Gray Extract the folder Large Color on Dark Gray and Rename > MainScreenButtons)
Start BB right click the chord sheet > Display Options (or Options > Preferences > Display)
Choose Skin > Large Color on Dark Gray Load Scheme > Large Color on Dark Gray
If you don't choose the Large Color on Dark Gray Scheme and want to keep the white chord sheet in Display Options up the top left choose Mixer Font and set it to a color other than black.
*The Mixer Font isn't saving in the Scheme at the moment so you will need to change in manually.
If you want to swap the the compact view icons (Ctrl+T) see Compact View Icon sets here Add a little Color Back To GUI If you use the installers exe or pkg they will install to \bb\Data\Images\MainScreenButtons\ on Mac right click Band-in-a-Box.app Show package contents /Applications/Band-in-a-Box/Band-in-a-Box.app/Contents/Resources/MainScreenButtons you can then move them then copy the folders below to your particular skin folder replacing the existing ones \bb\Data\CustomSkins /Applications/Band-in-a-Box/Data/CustomSkins

Ah thanks Pipeline, looking at the display options that I did have an idea about, I was making the mistake (as you have pointed out) of not putting Chord font size % box to 100 as it was set at 53%.
