I got the idea for this song when reading Psalm 105 one day. I thought “Hey! This sounds like a song”
Guess what. Its the book of Psalms. They are all songs!

So I wrote out the 1st verse on my white board and stared at it for a few days.
Pulled out my guitar and came up with a cord sequence and added two more verses.
The key was G.
Found a style that worked in BIAB and recorded the vocals and harmony.

But I didn’t really like it all that much. My voice felt a bit pushed. The key was too high.

After several more weeks I picked up my guitar and started to strum a different beat and in a different key. Also hit the Am chord and the bridge showed up.
I recorded the guitar and vocal together just so that I wouldn’t forget what it sounded like the next day.
Spent more time in BIAB and changed to this style.
NOCARES.STY (No Cares Relaxed Modern Pop Rock)

Exported the tracks to Reaper and re-recorded the vocal track.
Called up my daughter Jubilee and she did the harmony again.
Now I really like the song.

I also found out that this Psalm 105 also shows up in 1 Chronicles 16:8-22

From the Web Commentart on Psalm 105

The first 15 verses of Psalm 105 are also found in 1 Chronicles 16:8-22 and presented there as a composition of David, written and sung for the bringing of the ark of the covenant into Jerusalem. It is reasonable to therefore conclude that though this psalm is not specifically attributed to King David, he is the author of it.”

That Bliss Road House band can swing! The banjo is especially tasty here.

Upbeat, catchy chorus, effective bridge.

I enjoyed the listen.

Vocal control, you say. Never heard of it. Is that some kind of ProTools thing?

Really nice work on this one! Delightfully catchy and the harmonies are fantastic. I enjoyed the progressions too and thought the mix was professional and concise. I agree with David above too - the banjo added a lot.

Thanks for sharing smile

Marty,

I like what you've done with this. Really nice job of coming up with a good melody for the Psalm...

The BAND sounds really good - mixed well so that each instrument is clear and has its "space". Great drum sound!

The vocals are nice. Very well mixed. Occasionally the verse seems slightly too low for you (only slightly). The higher parts are strong. Jubilee's harmonies are nice!

Enjoyed it.

I enjoyed the melody you created for this Psalm. You sound more confident singing when you enter into the second verse. Thanks for sharing.

That's an interesting mashup of swing and even feel RT's along with a reggae track.
On paper it shouldn't - in your mix it does! And does it well. Nice mix.

At first glance it appeared that King David was singing the verses.
Now that would be feat! smile

But, hey, you did just fine...the lead and harmonies sound very good.

Psalm to song...great idea and well implemented.

Nice!

Hi Marty,

Very catchy and very entertaining... The reggae-based groove is really a great choice for creating a feeling of joy and of being uplifted.

I found sitting here and listening to you and Jubilee a terrific treat at 5:30 am. You both entertained me from start to finish. I love the polished sound that you've captured with the mix. It's very friendly on the ears.

All the best,
Noel

Wow Thanks for the detailed reviews. So much better than My wife saying "it sounds great!"

Floyd: yes I was running out of gas a bit on the low notes. Jubilee had commented on that when she came by to do the harmony. "Don't worry though dad. My harmony will fix it!" So nice to have a skilled, schooled talented daughter to make every thing sound nice.

Janice and Bud: Ha! King David was the writer not the singer. That is very funny.
Gee... I never noticed that the Organ was a reggae style. I was just looking for that B3 sound.
The Even Bass just plays during the bridge. So there are two bass lines going on in the bridge. I liked the way it gave extra punch.

Noel: Yes it sure does have a nice groove. I was amazed how the guitar riffs seem to swell up louder when our voices pause. I'm not sure if that is a function of compression (when we sing does that turn the guitar volume down automatically??) or just how BIAB set up the guitars.
Anyway a happy accident.

Thank you Mark. Glad you enjoyed the tune.
Professional sounding fix! Wow!. I had listened to the song in the car, in the family room and in the garage (my studio). High and low volume levels and compared to other songs. Then I made some minor tweaks with the faders. Seems to work pretty good.

Nice upbeat praise song. Can't ever get (or do) too much of that! I agree with Floyd's comments, but still, a nice job. I also agree you did a good job of blending styles without distracting from the meaning of the song.

Keep it up!

Steve
