Are there some amazing new algorithms that can sniff out say a mandolin or piano or guitar track, etc, i.e., actually recognizing the sonic characteristics of that instrument per se? And allowing it to be manipulated w/o affecting other instruments that share those characteristics? Otherwise wouldn’t it be only, perhaps, a more automated use of eq and multiband compression, etc.

IMHO code that allow you to, in effect, remix a mixed track (even in a limited manner) would be revolutionary. I’ve spent considerable time trying to improve tunes for which I no longer have the tracks. And the results have been marginal at best. I much look forward to seeing how all this shakes out.

There is definitely some AI happening, Bud. Currently it seems it can only isolate vocals, drums, and bass. But it seems to be able to do so without affecting other instruments living in the same frequency range.

Demo is impressive, check it out here: https://www.izotope.com/en/learn/rebalance-the-master-with-ozone-9.html
