Getting my toes wet in the MIDI pond and have a quick question regarding MIDI output from my Korg N5 synth to MIDI playing in BIAB.
I'm playing my keyboard live on a BIAB session on channel 5. Verified that on the BIAB MIDI monitor.
None of the MIDI instruments on my current session use that channel.
When I want to PLAY the session and play along on the Korg, the channel 5 on the CoyoteWT plays an instrument with my Korg keys so I hear both Korg and Coyote on that channel.
I want to know if there's a way to mute the CoyoteWT's channel 5. When I click on that channel, I just get the menu to choose an instrument (See Red Highlight).
Is there maybe another place in the menus to mute a MIDI channel?
Also, is there anything glaringly wrong in my MIDI settings? I'm thinking I can probably change the setting for Synthesizer/Sound Card from Microsoft GS Wavetable to one of the Korg presets since that is my keyboard.
Hi Steve The reason you hear both is probably because you are sending all your midi to the Coyote including the thru. I also assume you must have local on for the Korg, so it also gets sent to that and you hear that live from the Korg Quote. "I want to know if there's a way to mute the CoyoteWT's channel 5. When I click on that channel, I just get the menu to choose an instrument (See Red Highlight)".
When in the Select midi patch Screen you can chose no midi patch, (top) if you just want to hear the Korg live with its own voices. For live play along with BIAB.
However if you want to record the Korg midi Thru notes, then you can and record them on the melody or soloist track . Note to hear the same instrument on playback as you heard from your thru voice you must set the Melody or Soloist voice to that voice. As these are on Channel 4 & 8 In fact they are only midi note data and you can use any voice for playback of the melody or Soloist track. I notice that the Korg does not show up as a midi input or output device so I guess that’s why you have chosen Scarlett usb. Sorry if you knew all this. My pics below: Mike

That's correct. My Korg feeds into the MIDI IN/OUT of the Focusrite Scarlett external sound card.
I had not seen the channel map screen before so thanks for sharing that. Sounds like I need to play with that and the output MIDI channels on the Korg itself.
One more question Mike, those MIDI patch maps for the various keyboards in Synthesizer/Sound Card settings. Do you recall where in the C:\bb folder those are stored? I seem to have forgotten over the years.

If you mean the pat files for instruments so that you get the higher banks then they are here:
C: bb /data/util/synth kits
To load one in BIAB click on any mixer track and choose : load midi / select higher bank patches from pat file. From the popup window select open pat this will take you to all the pat files at the above location. The pat you choose here will stay in force until you change it. note: You can also load cakewalk ins files for your Keyboard here if you cant find a pat but can find a cakewalk ins (instrument definition), and it will covert it to a pat file for future use
That's exactly what I was looking for sir. I'll mark this post resolved and thanks for all of your help!
P.S. - I just found a Korg N5 .PAT file and ReadMe.txt file squirreled away in an old Korg backup folder I had dated the year 2001. Score! I don't have to go googling for one.
I was able to resolve the duplicate sounds issue by simply turning the volume on channel 5 to zero. Now I just hear the Korg when I'm playing with the BIAB session.
