If you open the Piano Roll window, you'll see 2 bars BEFORE bar one.
They are indicated as Bar -1 and Bar 0 (zero).
You could try entering your melody there.
Thanks Lloyd, I opened the piano roll and I see the bars you mentioned. I played around a bit to try and figure out how to enter notes but had no success. It has been a long day. I will give it a shot tomorrow after some sleep :-)
