This is a brand new song that a good friend of mine and I co-wrote

https://www.soundclick.com/music/songInfo.cfm?songID=13938555

Stay The Course

He will lead you on, and he will make you strong,
cause it won’t be very long, till we’ll be going home.
It could be any moment, in the twinkling of an eye,
we’ll be home with Jesus, in the sweet by and by.

Chorus:

Stay the course, and keep the faith,
finish the work you’re called to do.
Be strong, in the power of his might.
Hold to the plow, you’ll make it through,
and it seems you have done all you can do,
Stay the Course..

Life is full of heartaches, and troubles everywhere,
but we have a blessed hope, when Jesus will appear.
We’ll be changed from these trails, we are a mighty force,
Hold your head up high, Stay the course.

Repeat the Chorus:

Bridge:

We are looking for that moment, for the time is now,
friend we must be looking, toward the eastern sky.

Ronnie,

A good Gospel write.

The backing tracks are good and work well for the song.

The reverb levels on the vocal seem to vary throughout the song. I think it would work better to keep that consistent throughout...

Stay the course, for sure...

If you were referring to the first verse and the bridge, that wasn't reverb, that was three voices singing in unison!!

Hi Ronnie,

What a great choice of backing Realtracks. They work very well with one another. As I sat here listening, I found the musical journey calming and relaxing. You've taken care getting this mix together and it shows.

It's thumbs up from me!

All the best,
Noel

Strong lyric and catchy chorus. Everything blends so well. Good job Ronnie. Would like to know what BIAB style you used for this.

The backing is pretty solid.
Is it a BIAB style/band or your selection of Real Tracks?
The vocal reverb is pretty wonky and the bvox, in a few spots, don't quite track - may be a latency issue.
The vocals are a fair way forward from the backing and don't seem to be in the same room as the band - matching BIAB reverbs is hard I know.
A 192 MP3 isn't likely to display your work at its best - if bandwidth allows you'd be better served using a 320 MP3 or FLAC/WAV etc.
It definitely is a Ying & Yang community - one receives in direct relation to what one gives.

Cheers

I saw you mention this in another post so I came to listen.

That's good solid southern gospel song. I could hear this in a church concert. Back in the day I wrote quite a few SG songs myself.

Good job with a few comments that you might find helpful.

Some things to consider on the production side of things.

Gospel features a lead singer and harmony singers.... really cool tight harmony. If you are going to use 3 vocal tracks for a lead... consider picking the best one or parts from the 3 to make one really kicking lead. Take your other 2 leads and pan them hard right and hard left and then lower the volume on them to the point that you really can't hear them. You should only be able to hear them with the tracks soloed. What this does, when done right is add a thickening to the sound of the lead vocal. Pay really close attention to the details. Especially on the phrasing. On the chorus, the first "Faith" had a distinct non-sync moment. I personally will record the section again....when that happens. Take the time to do your best to get the details right because that's what really makes a song shine. You and use volume envelopes to fix or hide things like that rather than recording it again. ( I use that shortcut a lot )

That's some nit picking stuff but, if you find it useful, it can be helpful.

Aside from the few minor issues, I really like this song and this style of music. Maybe I will have to dig back through some of my old stuff and find a few of those old songs and see what they sound like done right in BB.

Thanks for getting the BIAB info on there sir, much appreciated. I love using the Brent electrics too.

Impressive that that was unison. I thought it kinda sounded like a thick reverb too. I agree with Floyd on trying to be more consistent across the song on how the vocals sound in regards to effects.

Overall, good job on it. Thanks for sharing.

If you will listen to Southern Gospel Music, there are a lot of songs where the group are singing unison on either the verse or the chorus.

I use Brent Mason a lot also Eddy Dunlap ( who is from my hometown of Paducah, KY), and Paul Franklin, (Vince Gill's Steel player)

As usual, catchy and tuneful. Only this one has with more harmony. smile

Others have pointed out there are places where the backing vocals are out of sync with the lead (like 0:52).

I don't know what DAW you're using, but one of the nice things about digitally editing audio is that it's easy to edit. So instead of re-recording a vocal, you can often just slide vocals into the correct place, or even stretch vowels out to make them match (moreso with backing vocals).

But that's just a nit - I enjoyed listening!

Vocal control, you say. Never heard of it. Is that some kind of ProTools thing?

We listen to a LOT of Southern Gospel but it's all mostly old school.
The Blackwood Brothers are our all time favorites and some of the somewhat modern
bluegrass groups do amazing four part harmony gospel. During our
bluegrass band years we used to call it "car horn tight" harmony. Janice
cut her harmony teeth singing bluegrass harmony. And probably 20% of our
set lists were always gospel. All meaning that although we've likely only posted
7-8 gospel songs here over the years we do like and understand the genre!

We enjoyed your production with the excellent choice of RTs and the supportive mix.

And, yep, in many things in life "staying the course" is often the best option!

Everything blends nicely. Liked the harmony parts with a deep register (baritone?) Enjoyed the listen.
