From the user's manual:

Quote:
Let’s say you’ve got a new style for Jazz called “Wynt_K.” You can create an alias so that when Band-in-a-Box looks for a Jazz Swing style, it will load in “Wynt_K” instead, so you don’t have to make changes to all your songs. And when you have found a new favorite style, just change the alias. You can also load or save sets of “Alias” files and share them with others.

Style aliases allow you to play back a song using the aliased, rather than the originally specified style.

Don't know how it works if there are multiple styles in a song or if specified track instruments have been replaced. But a lot of files that you can download from the internet all use ZZJazz as the style; with an alias, you could play back those files with a different style that you like better.
