I don't think it's geography so much as genre. In some genres in the US such as folk music, your description matches. PG Music uses the jazz convention of saying a chorus is once through the tune. In general, an A substyle (blue) could be used for verses, and a B substyle (green) for a chorus, and maybe an intro or tag. To make things more interesting, jazz musicians call the chorus a bridge.
