Windows sound recorder is a poor example of what works, because it is an embedded feature of windows. Programs like PTW, RB, and such rely on actually setting up the drivers internally in the program to connect the programs with the sound cards.

Sadly the built in sound cards are not really up to audio and midi recording. If you want to really get this thing working properly then you need to save up and purchase an external sound card/interface. These are deigned to record and sum the signals up at the input and output sources.
