I just spent many hours working out a melody track and now most of it is gone.
I'm using style _POP_BRK.STY. I know you are supposed to put your notation on Melody or Soloist, but I don't even see Melody. Soloist appears to be on Vocal Ooh's . I don't want to disturb what BIAB has generated, but I would like to add a notated melody somewhere and perhaps also a notated countermelody. I don't know whether BIAB 2019 Mac vs BIAB 2018 Mac is a factor here, but I've never lost notation in BIAB 2018 Mac, not did I get the warnings about Notation and Real Tracks that I see, though I don't completely understand what they mean.
I did use key signature changes and I did "special copy" some notation sections. It seemed to go well at the time, but after doing a save and restarting BIAB, most of the notation is gone. (Well, actually the key signature didn't seem to be on the right bar in Notation mode and it did insist on changing some of my entered notes that were "natural" in the new time signature to representations that were awkward. But that's a topic for another day.) Where did I go wrong and lose my Notation? And why don't I see Melody on the instruments across the top or at right? Thanks.

Hello Bruce,
This particular style (_POP_BRK.STY) is unusual in that it happens to have a loop assigned to the Melody track. This is why it says Loop in green along the top where you would normally see Melody. I think it would be better if it used the Strings track and in fact perhaps that was the intention. You could do this by right-clicking on Loop and selecting None, then adding that same loop to the Strings track. Then you will have the melody track available for notation entry.
One thing you might find useful, is you can disable the custom track names, in the Band-in-a-Box Preferences -> Preferences 2 dialog, uncheck 'Auto-generate track labels'.
Regarding the accidentals in notation, this could be affected by the "Use chord scale for enharmonics" setting in the Notation Window Options dialog. You can also force an accidental by control-clicking on a note -> Force accidental...
