As a beginner I have just started to write a tune by adding the notes to the notation screen. Quite often I place the note in the wrong place then wish to slide/move it to the correct one. I do not seem to be able to do this without messing everything up. Am I missing something?
You should be able to edit a single note by right-clicking on it and selecting Edit, or by click-hold and moving the note.
In the 2nd method, watch the note value in the display at top of the staff when releasing the mouse button.
(You must be in editable notation mode first)
BiaB has an interesting way of adding notes. Generally, it will fill the bar with a longer note until either another note or a rest is placed somewhere further along the bar.
Also, check that you have Mono mode unchecked. This may make a difference to the layout of the notation you are adding.

Just on another point. After loading my previously saved file, the notational display screen only displays chords,not the notes on the staves that were previously entered. It is blank. Yet when I play it, it plays the notes of my tune. Puzzled.....
Another way I like to edit is the piano roll editor. There, you can easily drag notes around to how you want. For me it seems to work easier without affecting the other notes. Just another of the many ways you can accomplish the same thing with this tool.
