I haven't found any settings in preferences that would control this. It works fine when you import audio to an existing file and then save it with the same name. It doesn't work when you use the save as feature to create a new file with another name. I never encountered this with any versions prior to 2020 so I'm wondering if it might be a bug. It does the same thing in 32 bit version.
