Good Points ed shaw
Thanks,

I try to use Mick Goodrick's "The Advancing Guitarist" to help break up too much reliance on patterns.

Bill Frisell, one of my favorite guitarists, is also a master of playing things out of position. Watching him play, you can almost feel him think ahead to where he might go for that next note. Uncanny.

Jens provides a significant amount of material in his videos. The area that has helped me most is harmonizing the scale. Slowly but surely I can grab different harmonizations for the meolody I am trying to play. This comes as a result of working on 1-3,1-3-5,1-3-5-7 harmonies and their inversions.

At first it was a bit mechanical, but slowly its becoming music too me.

Anyway, as a player trying to work out of the inevitable ruts we all fall into from time to time, this was a help.
