Assuming the song is unfolded (which all my songs are), I would normally "rest" the drums for the first verse and then unrest them on the second half of the bar before the next verse. That way, I don't have to worry about muting any the tracks.

Let's say first chord is "C", just enter C.bpgs (which means "rest" all tracks except the bass, piano, guitar, and strings - leaving only the drums rested). Then use the "Edit|Copy Special|Copy Rests" command to easily carry the rest dot over to the other chords in verse 1. Then on the second half of the bar before verse two, just enter the chord without dots and the drums will start playing there.
