This took 10 minutes to do and it's taken an hour to try and make work in my browsers. So the trick is when you see the link, right click and download the file it's about 2 megs. I just quits playing after 5 seconds otherwise and I can't find any way to fix that.

So this is Band in a Box, Ketron SD2, RealDrums, RealInstrument Fiddle, and band in a box sending chord changes on Ch5 where I stash stuff to change presets.

It was done in one take, I'm just supposed to be doing something else I'm sure....LOL.

Fair dinkum, John. A nice listen and a good demo for the Harmonizer. (That was the pedal, right?)

There are a few spots in the vocal which can be reinforced with proper breathing. You know where I'm talking about. When I was singing professionally, I would mark the lyrics with a bold apostrophe where I needed to take a breath. That's the only suggestion I can make.

Otherwise a solid performance on all counts, including the vocals as a whole.

Thx,

R.

Out of the musical closet, eh John. The first I think I've heard from you.
You remind me of Stan Rogers - do all of you So Ont boys have such deep voices? Were you a folky back in the 70s prowling around the Festival circuit in So. Ont.?
Is it the harmonizer that gives your voice a double-tracked sound - my hearing can't tell?
Your voice definitely suits the song - nice listen, nice choice. If you remix, maybe pull the voice back a bit or roll off some of the bottom - sounds like there is a proximity effect taking place here and there.
I'd like to hear a couple of more of those Irish numbers . . . and I'm part Scot.

Ian

Oh yeh - I have Firefox 2.x and it played well when the link was clicked.

I wouldn't know how to roll off the bottom LOL. You could explain that to me, and thanks guys.

I'm sort of a wyhiwyg like wysiwyg, only hear not see 'cause if I do get out and sing it's live and there's no tweaking that, except that the voicelive does on the fly harmonies, thanks guys!

Some people with older browsers are saying that. Right click on it and download it to your media player.

John,

Are you familiar with a CD named "Sons of Somerlin" by an artist named... um.. I forget ( ______ MacDonald?). Anyway, It's a mix of traditional and original scottish songs. The song you posted is included on the CD, but the arrangement is quite different. I like your arrangement... it's sometimes tough to find styles that work for celtic music, but you did a good job on this one.

Live music is a whole 'nother animal than studio music. With live music you want more spontaneity and there is no opportunity to tweak anything. In that context, I think you are travelling down a good path. BIAB gives you the right tool for backing tracks that simulate the variability introduced by human musicians playing live. And the Vocal processor gives you full leeway to phrase your vocals differently at every gig and still have the backup singers right with you.

So with your new equipment you are totally positioned to have the time of your life as you travel and perform. I'm quite envious. Good luck! If your travels ever bring you anywhere near Winston-Salem NC, let me know so I can come and hear you play.

Thanks Pat. That song is normally done in 3/4 and I found an approximation in a folder of folk songs that I got from somewhere. My wife always calls me the de-waltzifying king. Drives her nuts. That's what 5 years of post secondary school music and 20 years of piano study gets you. On the other hand she can grab a piece of music on bass clef, in the wrong key, and start writing the right notes on it about as fast as I can play it.

I'm still experimenting. Lots of other stuff in my way, the end of the tax deductible home renovation thing is next week, and I've got 1/2 the house apart, well at least the guy I hired has it that way, furniture all in odd places, floors up, walls coming down....

I do have one piece in French that I'm going to be more 'picky' with. I may end up trying to pass it around and see what I end up with vrs what someone else does with the same stuff. TBC as we say..to be continued.
