dear pg. long time biab user. hundreds of songs done with biab/reaper combo. i dont post , too busy creatin and running studio. just upgraded from biab 2013 to 2020. it takes a lot to impress me , but i am dancing with joy with 2020. absolutely wonderfull. haveing a blast. i'm in creation city getting so many new song ideas. riffing off all the styles. ive had my crits/nits with biab in the past, but this is "WOW". running steinberg interface ur series into i5 latop refurb with ssd drive. silky silky . for anyone reading this MAKE SURE YOU USE A DECENT PROCESS(i5/i7) WITH SSD DRIVE. you can find cpu rateings on cpubenchmark.net
go for a refurb laptop like i did cost me 300 bucks. just put into google search "refurb laptop/desktop i5 i7 with ssd and 8 gigs ram" whatever. eg hey i jst saw a refurb xeon desktop off lease. powerhouse for recording studio. 400 buks. save a ton of money. BUT CAVEAT load up biab on the refurb /do a biab generation time test with traks before purchase. my local pc store lets me do this. walk away from a store that wont let you do a biab test.
i use biab for loads of bed traks then into reaps for vocs/overdubs etc etc.
bye, gonna go make some songs

Sounds like you're having fun. Yes, you will have seen many changes since 2013
BIAB & RB2026 Win.(Audiophile), Windows 10 Pro & Windows 11, Cakewalk Bandlab, Izotope Prod.Bundle, Roland RD-1000, Synthogy Ivory, Session Keys Grand S & Electric R, Kontakt, Focusrite 18i20, KetronSD2, NS40M, Pioneer Active Monitors.
yippy i'm haveing a blast. fun times. but the key ive always found is biab is very deep. to ge the most out of it you must experiment. eg useing a tiny slice of a jazz drum in a rock track. what i do is generate lots of tracks and style results from biab into reaper and then assemble the song the way i want it. but 2020 is amazeing for me. ive already created over 100 different types of musician bands by assembling different ideas for bed tracks. delve delve delve people. thats my advice.

Heres my methodology with biab. Might help someone. (when I do an upgrade of biab eg 2020.) Step1. I audition every single instrument/noise/drums/ Song demo/midi ie EVERYHTHING in biab. Takes a week. I’m looking for IMPACT and SOUND PICTURE. The ones I like I save in a FAVS folder. Step2. I build/assemble my BACKING BANDS from the FAVS FOLDER. Rather like in the old days motown and muscle shoals Had their in house backing bands ready to go. i usually end up with FAV 50 backing bands in a separate MY BACKING BANDS FOLDER SEPERATED BY GENRE. Step3. Start writing songs , using the backing bands folder Loading into biab the backing band I want for a certain song I’m writing. And away we go. then i xfer all the tracks into reaps. going back and forth as needed tween biab and reaps to add or delete or massage tracks. step4. i add my own instrumentation and vocs in reaps depending on what the song calls for. THUS biab for bed/backing traks. reaps for vocs/overdubs/ edits/moveing things around/trickery. Et Voilas mes cheries lol.

How do you get a store to allow you to run a BIAB generate ? Would suppose installing BIAB on the computer you want to buy and just that takes a long time (if you want BIAB ULTRA PACK) ?

I'm not sure I follow, but you can purchase the UltraPak pre-installed on a USB drive. Then there is virtually no installation time required (as little as a few minutes).
BIAB & RB2026 Win.(Audiophile), Windows 10 Pro & Windows 11, Cakewalk Bandlab, Izotope Prod.Bundle, Roland RD-1000, Synthogy Ivory, Session Keys Grand S & Electric R, Kontakt, Focusrite 18i20, KetronSD2, NS40M, Pioneer Active Monitors.
n0000. dont have to install biab on tester pc at store. biab is ready to go on a usb hard drive. simply attach biab drive over usb to test pc already loaded with some of your biab songs on and test away. preferably tester i5/i7 with ssd in. look for clues on tester before opening biab. do normal windows and progs open fast etc or take ages ?.
OR "alternatively bad boy approach " .lol. (maybe you have the biab dl version.) follow this.
you can buy something called a ssd toaster. this is an external device that has two ssd slots in it that looks like a toaster. eg startech from amazon. one o many. so toaster with two ssd's in (one for backup) attached to host refurb 300 buck i5/i7 level processor pc ALSO with ssd in. (i love ssd's and they are cheap now. never had a failure yet. i just make sure i have backups in case). install biab on one of the ssd's in the external toaster. if youve done it right you should get fast generation times .
the prob is some people are useing old pc's with slow old drives and/or processors in.
for 500 bucks these days you can get a very fast pc recording rig with toaster/ssd's. ie track city. talking backup i keep triple back ups of everything off site from the studio.
tres bien mes cheries.

The upgrade from 8 GB RAM to 16 GB is inexpensive and very much worth it, especially if you're running 64-bit Windows. My PC ran a lot more smoothly after I upgraded the RAM to 16 GB.
ThinkPad i9 32GB RAM 7TB SSD; Win11 Pro; RME Fireface UCX II; BiaB 2026 Ultra Bitwig Studio 6; Studio Pro 8; Reaper v7; Melodyne Studio 5; Tonalic Studio 1 Gig Performer 5; NI S61 MK3; Focal Shape 65; Beyerdynamic DT 880 & 770
In any case I think that an Intel i7 with a SSD and 8GB ram should be enough to run BIAB smoothly. What do you think ?
Yes, this would be fine if you are using realtracks and GM. But if you get into MIDI and want better sound sources like Kontakt, Sampletank, etc, then I would go for either 16 GB of ram or a computer with 8 GB of ram that can be upgraded to 16 GB of ram. YMMV
The bumper sticker said "I'm a veterinarian, therefore I can drive like an animal". Suddenly I realized how many proctologists are on the road.
64 bit Win 10 Pro, the latest BiaB/RB, Roland Octa-Capture audio interface, a ton of software/hardware
what is really kicking my joy level up like crazy is the rock, punk and surf styles. then i do mad stuff like take a country violin and put it in a punk song. sometimes works sometimes dont. i used to do this all the time with 2013 even tho biab told me not the genre. lol. had many pleasant musical accidents this way cross pollinating between genres. another trick to try.
in my opinion 2020 biab should get the 2020 tech award. and i cant understand why leading recording mags never feature biab in a major way. thus i'm sceptical of a lot of reviewers in these magas.
also regards to you mr g. rename it orchestra in a box cos thats what we all want. yahoo, did i just see harps !! wunderfull.

Just one more methodology 1.As I mentioned I keep different folders for my fav styles, Rhythms, solos, instruments, midi ETC separated by style of music. And I add rateings. Eg VNICE,VVNICE,WOWSER etc lol. Thus I can easily see my FAVS. 2.SOME PEOPLE I NOTICE EASILY DISMISS MIDI STYLES AS “BLAH”. I would suggest respectfully you don’t do this because there Are little sound pictures and awesome nuggets to discover . For example computer music magazine comes with all manner of synth And other plug ins. Try randomly plugging them into biab tracks and delve. heres the mag. https://www.musicradar.com/computermusic/cm-plugins-full-list-of-our-exclusive-free-vst-au-plugin-instruments-and-effects-571808 also go to you tube for them in action. https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLE90EC6DE32E81D76 je t'adore the cm microfuse reverb plug in as one example and try dune for a synth. nice. You might be surprised these plug ins plus biab are a creative tour de De force. Also try other free synth etc plug ins on the net. Eh bien mes amis. Toodles. Ps if you don’t know midi learn it. It can be very powerfull. Also let me mention I got the 2020 biab on a usb drive. Indeed it is fast as pg claims. i'm rocking out..
