A couple years ago I put up a song with a dream sequence that contained an uptempo part that was very short in duration. The song was called "A Day In The Light" which was a co-write with David Snyder (I sure do miss seeing you around here David-The place lost a step when you went quiet) I credit David for the title of this one. This is a re-write of the uptempo part. It's about escaping the pressures and realities of life through dreaming! I wrote the lyrics on the fly today and will certainly want to improve some of them! It's going to take some tweaking but I kind of like it and hope any who listen does also! Thanks for checking it out!

A DAY IN THE LIGHT Words and music by Torrey Bliss Copyright 2020
I hear the church bells ringing The birds are singing Another day here in the light Don't interrupt this feeling I know that I'm dreaming Don't send me back there to the night In this place I'm seeing Everything I believe in Another day here I'm the light If I could only take it back with me A lovely day here in the light
You never know just where you'll go When you close your eyes It's when you feel alive The pain is gone the thrill is on It's a natural high I go there every night
In this world I'm seeing What I just don't believe in Oh take me back there to the light What is right is wrong And what's wrong is right A downward spiral to the night I will escape in slumber and close my eyes And find my way back to the light If I could only take it back with me A lovely day there in the light
You never know just where you'll go When you close your eyes It's when you feel alive The pain is gone the thrill is on It's a natural high I go there every night
Where will I go I never know Each time a surprise When I close my eyes The pain is gone the thrill is on It's a natural high I'm going there tonight

This is really great! It has a late 60's vibe. I liked the groove you have going on and the backing tracks were spot on. Your vocal is really strong on this and your mix was perfect.
There is a lot to be proud of here.
OK, a random thought; Why does toilet paper need a commercial? Who's not buying it?

Torrey - it's a cracker. Pop psych that would sit happily on The Duke's of Stratosphere's album or EP. Lyrically I don't think you need to tweak anything as it works really well. It's possible to address the double use of light I suppose but it doesn't stick out as a problem at all. Lovely stuff and an exemplar of using RealTracks and other players together to achieve a coherent and classic song.

Very promising intro raising expectations and then starts the familiar poppy Torrey style The positive message makes me forget the Earthly worries. Excellent mix, especially the drums sound great. Vocals and the solo guitar are full of the natural high!
Very nice, Torrey and David, all the way around. I got a picture of that feeling of waking up, looking out the window to see it is a beautiful clear day. Or, day in the life, hey? Then it morphed into something quite profound, which I might call 'Going to the LORD,' that feeling of the last prayer of the day, before inviting the Sand Man in. Fine listen.
Thanks so much Ray! Your input is so valuable to me! You are a tremendous help to fellow musicians on this site if they are not too proud to take advice! I must say I'm not aware of the group you mentioned but will have to have a listen sometime! Take care, T

They were a side project of XTC. They had songs that didn't fit and they were just for fun pop psych - an album and EP of fun for anyoe who enjoyed pop psych really...

Love that opening into the melody, which is just infectious. It’s got sum a Beetles type sound to me, really engaging, particularly with the back up Vox. Harmonies and solo guitar work. For lyrics written on the fly, solid. Sweet vocal. A winner in my book!
Nicely done - loved the melodies and the vocals suit the instrumentation perfectly. The harmonies are stunning too. Definitely gives off a mid 60's vibe.
Like a lost cut on any of their albums from Rubber Soul on...
The wonder of that is added to by the upbeat positive lyric, vocal delivery and the overall production.
Your guitar and vocal performances just take it way over the top.
Outstanding!!!

PS: Upon another listen Janice mentioned Pet Sounds...another good thing.

I like this lyric. It's a somewhat skewed take on the preferability of dreams over waking life. The chord work and melody press this home. It's a "happu" vibve, but dark enough to suggest that it really "shouldn't" be this way.
Anyway, that's my take. The groove and band is strong (both the Box and your own work) and it sounds good to me. There may be a hint of "book" in the vocals in a place or two, but I'm listening with volume up and it passes quickly. Much enjoyed this.
You are working very hard these days. Even I have troubles keeping up with your frequency of presenting new songs. But this one is (also) a very good song that reminded me of the big years of pop. But it weren't the Beatles that came in my mind when listening to your song, but the British group Wham. 'To help you a bit, their most famous song was 'Last Christmas'. Halfway in the song I also heard traces of the Beatles in it. So you have covered multiple artists with this outstanding song. I couldn't think of any criticism of the song or an instrument. Crazy, huh? So very well done!
