I keep setting up the Coyote patches to go with different instruments in the song. I Save Group and Save Preset. Seems like everything should be saved then, right?
Then I close the file and reopen it, and reload those "saved" items. Yet I get a bunch of random instruments. None of the stuff I "saved" is still there. So every time I open the file I have to start over with Coyote.
Why does this seemingly simple point need to be so complicated? What am I doing wrong?
Thanks.
Michael

I don't know what you are doing wrong. Are you using 'Reroute all MIDI to default DXi synth'?
Are you using more than one instance of the synth? Normally you just save the song in SEQ file format and it remembers the synth patches, shouldn't need to Save Group or any of that unless you are doing something special
I do not work here, but the benefits are still awesome Make your sound your own!
extract from post: Use coyote wav table as your dxi synth And tick the box use VST/DXI Un tick Route midi thru to midi driver
The default midi piano should play when you press the keys. You can chose any midi voice as your through voice.
If you make a recording at this stage the recording will go on the Melody track/ channel, (you can use soloist track) in the mixer, and play back using what ever midi voice is set for the melody / soloist track. So if you want it to sound the same as your through voice then they need to be set to the same voice. This should serve as a test.
By table I mean the table that you are shown by the coyote application. It looks like a gray table with a bunch of slots in it. The instructions say that you put a patch in there, say in slot number 14. That’s how I selected the sax.
From your note I guess I wasn’t supposed to do it that way?
Thanks.

It works both ways for me. I think your problem may be that BiaB saved the sounds it had chosen and those reload each time you open the song.
Check your track using MIDI channel 14 for any Program change messages.
You can view these in the Event List (the icon with a big 'E' on it). Look for program changes near the beginning of the song, also called patch changes.

The thing is that I have the same phenomenon with a brand new file with no BIA B information in it. So if I open a new file, change the plug-in. Save the file. Close the file. Go out of real Band. Then re-open the file, I get the same phenomenon. So I don’t see how BIAB could cause the problem.
Must be something Karups somewhere, because otherwise someone else would’ve seen this happen. Thus far I haven’t seen any posts anywhere online that replicate the problem I’m having.
Thanks.

The patches gets saved in the track or if nothing has been saved to the track then the patches are based on the mini table nothing gets saved in coyote dxi none of the patches it's just a synthesizer
Yes it works as you said. I think I have been doing this all wrong.
From the Forte instructions I thought you were supposed to first manually put the patches on the Forte page. I thought that you were then supposed to pick the "channel" associated with the Forte Slot, say channel 16 to get that patch to play on the applicable track. I thought you changed the "Channel" entry in the applicable track.
But it looks like that may not be the way to do it in Real Band. I guess you are supposed to "Select" the patches somewhere else in a menu and then somehow those selections self-populate into the Forte table.
I guess something like that?
Thanks.

HI Michael Yes you insert the patches by right clicking on a midi track. In the main RB screen. So if blank project set up some midi tracks by right clicking and set track type to midi. Then right click on that track and choose a channel Right click on track and choose Patch Select dialog… The tracks will use and go to your chosen synth.
You may find it easier to set up your voices in the mixer window of Biab first, and save. Then open the mgu/sgu in Realband and save as a Seq file. This will then use the BIAB preferred track / channel settings
