Thanks bluage, I had half the lyric done and stored in a folder of rejects. It seemed to fit the structure and I spent a little time finishing it. I based the song on my current obsession with F shaped chords and the other bits, all old fashioned open chords, fell into place as did my sketch vocal. luckily Misha was able to take the words and sketch on a journey that created an effective minimalist melody. Your words are encouraging.

Thanks F.M.M., the warmth of the 1st mix was, in aprt, due to the PSP Vintage warmer 2 VST employed in the faux mastering process I used. I think mix 2, now presented with the same processing, matches those qualities you so well described.

Robertkc, the psychoacoustic effects of level! Thanks for your generosity. Misha fitted into the negative, defensive, harrowed lyric well.

Thanks Janice & Bud, I've a template of sorts now for BIAB drums - not nearly as time consuming as they used to be to sit properly. I've lifted the vocal a little more in level and with some "shine" EQ but it was a balancing act between negating the work I'd put in on sibilant sounds, (even though I know no one else seems to hear them or, if they do, aren't bothered by them I can't help myself), and giving the voice more level + presence. Thanks for the comment re the lyrics...that's where I started and where I remain most comfortable - ever the frustrated poet.

Thanks PeterF, I reckon some "real" guitar would've added more sparkle but the BIAB solo's'll do.

Al-David, Thanks for your time and interest, I've upped the level with some faux mastering ( reverb, EQ, warmer, and some stacked limiters).

Hi Ray and Misha, This is a nice, and also ‘sweet’ collaboration between the both of you. The lyrics are impressing. The way you make those words work together to form an intriguing lovestory, or better a not-at-all-lovestory is very well done. Hans Thanks Hans, The root of the melody is my voice - I sketched a melody with the two notes I can croak and that sketch heavily influenced Misha's take. The lyric has it's origin in a event that occurred when I was 14 that I regret deeply but the narrative is nothing like that circumstance - merely the half life time of regret.

Good song, nice vocal, sweet guitars and a good mix. This is a really good song. Thanks Mario, Harley Benton electric 12 string on the left and Fender Squire Mustang on the right...both very easy to play. Chinese made guitar L, Vietnamese made guitar R and Japanese made bass in the middle.

Great song, I prefer the first mix as it's warmer and has a bit more punch to it. I think the lead voca could come up a tad, but overall a great job guys Ta Graham, I've applied your ideas to the latest iteration.

Just using the simple F chord and moving it up n down the fretboard two steps higher is G then 2 to A etc etc. I'm unable to play Barre chords (tendon trouble) so started using the F shape.

Hey rayc - I listened to all three versions and I can hear some differences, but not that much. Those in the forum with better ears for mixing, balance, tone and so forth may have some better feedback for you. With that said, however, I wonder if there is something you could tweak with the mic you are using to record the vocals. I hear some very good qualities in your voice, but it seems to be getting washed out somehow. I am not in a position to advise you, sadly - I just use a iPad mini to record my vocals, and use a tad of compressor and reverb on it to liven things up a bit, and I do my mixing on it too, in Garageband for iOS, so again that is pretty limited. Hope this input is useful.

Manage with Strife mix 2... Sounded better to my ears... Than Managed with Strife - Mix 2 faux mastered... The faux mastered one sounded more brittle to my ears... But... You better not trust my ears
