Hello, forum friends

After a short blank again, this is my second post of this year.
This song is written for the latest recording session of our music circle last December.
I would like to introduce you two versions with the same score, which are the RealTrack version and the live band version.
I produced the RealTrack version first, and then I arranged it and wrote the score for the live band.
Any comments encouraged.
Always welcome.

Best regards.

Shigeki Adachi

Summary of lyrics:

Falling down from the universe
Hundreds of millions of light years away
Your message reached me
“Hello, how are you? Nice to meet you.”
But where should I send my reply

I wanted to see you, I wanted to see you
And I waited for the night
I wanted to see you but I couldn’t see you
And I waited for the morning
I wanted to see you, I wanted to see you
And I had been waiting for you
I wanted to see you but I couldn’t see you
However I had kept waiting for you forever

Though I don't know your face yet
I kept singing my message to you
For years and decades
Nevertheless you still say
“Hello, how are you? Nice to meet you.”
And “It's your turn next time.”
I only think you're joking

I wanted to see you, I wanted to see you
And I waited for the night
I wanted to see you but I couldn’t see you
And I waited for the morning
I wanted to see you, I wanted to see you
And I had been waiting for you
I wanted to see you but I couldn’t see you
However I had kept waiting for you forever

Goodbye my first star
Please go back to the dust of the universe
And now please don’t say any more
“Hello, how are you? Nice to meet you.”
Goodbye my first star

Wow - really nice work on this smile A fine example of Band-in-a-Box's versatility. Really catchy, and the production is lush and professional. As always, the work with the Vocaloid here is among the best I've heard.

You should be proud of this one - thanks for sharing!

Shigeki Adachi,

I enjoyed listening to both versions. Often, I cannot decide between your RealTracks version and your Live Band version, but on this one, I much prefer the Live Band version. It has more "warmth". It is "organic" even though it is electronic based music. Excellent job of translating it to the band - they played it well. Also, in the Live version the Vocaloid sits in the mix better than the RealTracks version. In the RealTracks version the vocal seemed to "rise above" the mix a little.

You are an amazing composer/musician. And you use Band-In-A-Box so well.

I always enjoy your music.

That was exceptionally pleasant.

I think I prefer the BiaB version, for the exact reasons that fj pointed out. The clockwork precision of the BiaB version seems a better fit, even though the live version is a warmer. The digital version seems a bit thinner and transparent, and the voice fits in a bit better.

In the live version, the contrast of the "warm" instruments against the digital voice of Hatsune Miku made it fit less well to my ears.

But as I've stated elsewhere, I'd take fj's advice over my own any day! smile

A very enjoyable listen, thanks for posting!

Really cool that you used BIAB to arrange the song and then took it to the real band to play. A lovely and sweet song. I love the lyrics:

"Goodbye my first star
"Please go back to the dust of the universe"

Great lines.

Great work.

Shigeki,
I always enjoy your back to back recording comparisons; a taste test for the ears to find the subtle differences.
Its a very enjoyable flowing upbeat pop song.
My nod goes to the live band version for the warmth and balance in the mix.

Another pure (J-)pop perfection, you have created familiar sounding tune which grabs on the first listen. Reminds me of several European pop songs from my favorite decade the 80's.

Very catchy chorus and the production is very harmonious and balanced, the synthesizer melody part is very very nice. To simple ingredients you have added your own magic sauce with very enjoyable chord progression which shows your professionality and creativity in music making. Miku sounds better than ever. Very nice lyrical landscape with a glimpse of mystery in stars and fairies.

I think I prefer the RealTracks version because of the radio-friendly tightness when listening on the headphones.

The BIAB version is terrific but the "live" band is a step up from that i terms of feel.
Top shelf.

Hello, there, Mr. Adachi smile ...

I listened to the 'Real Tracks' and the 'live' versions of Goodbye, My First Star, which is a sweet title that evokes a sense of a child's wonder at viewing the heavens.

The difference in each presentation is easy to note, because the 'live' band has that peculiar ambience that is instantly identifiable -- the sound of the space, of the air in the room that the 'live' musicians and instruments were recorded in. The Band-in-a-Box track doesn't possess that ambience, of course, but one could possibly add that through FX processing and make it really difficult to tell the difference between the two tracks smile.

But, concerning the song itself, it feels like a 'pop' lullaby! The Vocaloid singer, Hatsune Miku, has an innocent sound that one would immediately associate with a child's voice, and it's disarmingly cute and soothing to the ear.

The lyrics are unexpectedly moving, as they seem to describe the kind of painful heartbreak that is the result of someone missing a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to encounter another who presence is strongly, achingly desired, and, failing in that goal, is left feeling inconsolably lonely:

"Goodbye my first star
Please go back to the dust of the universe
And now please don’t say any more..."

So sad frown , but the music is so fragile, so wistful, and has such a warm melody, that it 'sweetens' that sadness, just a little bit.

Sincerely,

LOREN

We would give q slight nod to the live version but,
as always, they are both excellent.

Great to have a new song from you!

With Band-in-a-Box® 2026, we've released 202 incredible new RealTracks (in sets 468-488) in a variety of genres—featuring your most requested styles!

Jazz, Funk & World (Sets 468-475):
Our new jazz, funk & blues RealTracks include a groovin’ collection of RealTracks and RealDrums! These include more requested “soul jazz” RealTracks featuring artists Neil Swainson (bass), Charles Treadway (organ), Brent Mason (guitar), and Wes Little (drums). There are new “smooth jazz” styles (4), which include a RealTracks first: muted trumpet, as well as slick new smooth jazz brushes options for drums. Blues lovers will be thrilled—there are more “classic acoustic blues” styles, including guitar (5), bass (4), and drums (10) with blues master Colin Linden, featuring understated and tasty background acoustic soloing, plus brushes drums and acoustic bass. There are also new electric blues RealTracks, including electric blues with PG favorite Johnny Hiland (3) and soulful electric slide guitar from Colin Linden (4). If you love funk & gospel, there are great new options this year, including gospel organ (3) from Charles Treadway, as well as new funk, tango, and rock ’n’ roll drums (3) and bass (1). And for big, bold arrangements, we have uptempo soul horns (4) featuring a three-part hip horn section with options for a full mix or stems of each individual horn — plus an accompanying rhythm section (4) of drums, bass, guitar, and electric piano!

Rock & Pop (Sets 476–482):
Our new rock & pop RealTracks bring a powerful mix of requested favorites, fresh genres, and modern chart-inspired styles! We have more of our popular “Producer Layered Acoustic Guitars (15)” featuring Band-in-a-Box favorite Brent Mason. We’ve continued our much-requested disco styles (10), and added new Celtic guitar (5) with a more basic, accessible approach than our previous Drop-D or DADGAD offerings. There are also highly requested yacht rock styles (17), inspired by the smooth, polished soft-rock sound of the late ’70s and early ’80s — laid-back grooves, silky electric pianos, warm textures, elegant harmonic movement, and pristine production aesthetics. Fans of heavier styles will love our new glam metal (13), capturing the flashy, high-energy sound of ’80s arena-ready guitar rock. We also have a set of rootsy modern-folk rock (18), with a warm, organic sound combining contemporary folk textures and driving acoustic strumming. And we’ve added lots of new modern pop styles (16) — the kinds of sounds you’re hearing on the radio today, featuring exciting new drums, synths, and cutting-edge RealTracks arrangements.

Country, & Americana (Sets 483–488):
Our new country & Americana RealTracks deliver a rich collection of acoustic, electric, and roots-inspired styles! We have new country pop (9) with legendary guitarist Brent Mason. There is also a potpourri (14) of bouzouki, guitars, banjo, and more, perfect for adding texture and character to contemporary acoustic arrangements. We’ve added funky country guitar (5) with PG favorite Brent Mason, along with classic pedal steel styles (5) featuring steel great Doug Jernigan. There are more country songwriter styles (8) that provide intimate, rootsy foundations for storytelling and modern Americana writing. Finally, we have “background soloing” acoustic guitar (12) with Brent Mason — simpler, but still very tasty acoustic lines designed to sit beautifully behind vocals or act as a subtle standalone solo part.

Check out all the 202 new RealTracks (in sets 468-488)!
