I had a few Forum Members have a listen to a few of my backing tracks. Jim Fogle came back with a little advice on a couple of songs. On one song he said the strings sounded wrong. The original style had horns but I wanted to add a lead-in and did not have a suitable VST so I changed to strings. Anyway this caused me to look for a suitable horn or trumpet. I came across a Free VST VSCO2 this had a fairly good trumpet (I also had a look at free DSK Trumpet.).

The purpose of this post is to let folks know about these VST instruments. VSCO2 seems to barf in Cakewalk causing Cakewalk to drop out when unfreezing then track (when in Trumpet Mode). Yet to do more testing.

Tony

Edit: Downloaded just the VSCO2 Trumpet part and it seems fine.

I found this on a Reaper Forum albeit I was using Cakewalk in this instance.

It seems the VSCO2 Orchestra program has an issue, as I said I ended up downloading just the Trumpet and it seems fine.

Now because I should not go out I might try the SFZ versions in Sforzando which then should work in BIAB.

Keep well

Tony

I downloaded and unpacked the SFZ Files. I then pointed Sforzando at various SFZ Files and they seemed to work ok. (I did think the VSCO2 trumpet sounded better but in theory they should be similar)

Google/Bing SFZ trumpets and you may find one that better fits your needs. There are many free and low cost SFZ sounds available.

I hope this helps and good luck.

Thanks Mario, I have it done. The thing I was trying to say is for those looking for sounds. If you go to the VSCO2 site there are downloads that have good instruments. To install the full orchestra VST might cause issues in some circumstances but individual instruments seem to be fine.

For those using Sforzando there are a couple of downloads that give the VSCO sound set in .wav format and control methods SFZ format it is a simple matter to download the .wav set and also an SFZ set you prefer. To get Sforzando to work with them is a simple matter pointing Sforzando to the the place where the SFZ is stored (put the .wav folder in the same place).

It works a treat. I guess I don’t explain myself too well. After years of mentoring trainees I rarely give exact answers but am a bit vague to get folk to learn for themselves.
