What is the best or preferred way to create a typical ending for a classic country song (Real Tracks)?
For example, "Your Cheatin' Heart"
The next to last measure is a full 4 beat, then the last measure is a 2 beat, but the last chord needs to be held.
If I setup the last measure as a 2 beat , add the V chord on beat one, then the I chord with the hold on beat two, it doesn't sound right and the bass keeps on playing a few measures after.
I may not be doing this right or looking at it the "wrong way".
Anyone have some suggestions?

Answering my own question, I found if I make the I and V chords "shots", ie. 2 dots added it does indeed sound right and the music stops after the last held chord (I).

Usually i set the last chord to a hold, and 2 or 3 empty bars after that. Rarely a shot.
The editing of the fade etc for different tracks i'll do later in a DAW.

Also, remember if you are doing a held chord at the end, you need to turn off the automatic two bar ending, or you could get some weird results.
