It sounds like there is a dot/period after the chord. For example C. and F. etc. This dot tells all the instruments to rest, so all will be silent, and it will also colour the chord red to show that a setting is present (like you are seeing).
I'm guessing that you are using either MIDI file or a BIAB songsheet from the internet.
If this is the case, to remove those settings,
1. right-click on the chord sheet
2. select 'chord settings' from the pop-up menu
3. select 'Clear all bars' as shown on the image below.
