I do this if I want to make a new melody for existing chords.

Say Autumn Leaves.

Just go in and kill the Melody, and anything on the soloist.

Save the new work as Leaves1 or something.

There is a utility that then makes you a new melody, same chords and same style, same song structure. Lots of fun that. Then you can 'tweak' it. I've done that a ton with old standards, don't know why I find that interesting but it is.
