Matt Finley Veteran Joined: Jul 2000 Posts: 26,889 Hudson Valley & Lake George NY	Welcome. Yes, MIDI is only instructions and the quality of sound depends completely on the MIDI synth you use. It can be hardware or software. The one built into computers and used by default in Windows is as bad as it gets. This web page on the PG Music site is outdated by ten years but it will give you a very good start to understanding the possibilities.
